Check Out Titus Haug’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Titus Haug.

Hi Titus, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Growing up, I was always playing around with the guitar and writings songs. In Highschool, I had played in some bands but since I was the youngest in the group(s) all my bandmates graduated and moved away which left me with myself and my acoustic guitar. I started getting serious about songwriting then and started playing various open mics around town through my college years. Eventually, that led me to realize I needed to record some music to share with people after the shows! In 2016, I recorded my first Album “There Is Time” and once it was released the following year, I started touring frequently. I’ve released an EP and a few singles since then. This year I’ll be releasing another full length which means I’ll probably be playing quite a bit of shows once that comes out. It’s been a process of refining my craft over the years and keeping my head down and pushing through the hard times. Growing an audience in music is a process but ultimately, I’m just happy to be making art that I like and sharing that with people.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It’s certainly not been an easy road but I’m happy to be on it. The easy and fun part is creating the music and getting to share it with people. Most of the biggest obstacles have been funding the records and tours and promoting them. It’s a hard ship to steer as a one man crew but it’s often the only way in the early years as an independent artist. You have to juggle the creative aspects along with the business side of things which has always been a challenge. That being said, it has worked out and continues to grow. I’m thankful to still be making music.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I also do photography professionally. Most recently, I’ve been working on a surf photography book shot entirely on 35mm film. In the photo arena, I’m definitely more known in the surf world since that is what I’ve primarily been focused on for quite some time now. My career thus far has been multi-disciplined within the photographic and musical side of things and that has created an interesting dynamic in my creative life. Some months I’m focused entirely on music while other times, I’ll focus on a photo project. In a way, I like how the different aspects of creativity play off of each other. I’m definitely excited to release this book I’ve been working on. I also have a full-length record coming out this year which I’m very excited to share as well. As far as what I’m most proud of, I would say it’s the images and the music that I’ve been able to create over the years. I really enjoy both and I put my heart and soul into my work. I think people can see that I love what I do, or at least that’s what I hope to convey in my work.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
There have been many lessons learned during the Covid times. For my own life, I think it has been a season of learning patience. Timelines were changed, plans and goals had to change, but ultimately that’s life sometimes. I’ve learned to go with the flow more and focus on doing the best that I can with what I have in front of me.
