Today we’d like to introduce you to Tonice Mon’a.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started writing music & poetry as kid, it was always an outlet for me to express myself. Then In my teens, I started venturing off into modeling as well & from there I just mixed my rappin with fashion. creative arts has always been something I loved so I don’t limit myself! I have always done some small film work as well.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road was not easy. It took me time to build my confidence & find myself & not care about what others had to say. For a long time, I let others determine my worth. It got to a point where I had to isolate myself from places & ppl to focus on what I truly wanted to do in life.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Making music (rapping), modeling (print, runway)
What sets me apart in music is my old-school style. I don’t try to keep up with the music that’s out. I make music from my heart. I started writing music from expressing myself whether I had a bad or/ good day & just wanted to get it out or I could hear a beat & it would just move me & my mind would come up with something dope!
My modeling helped me tap into my more girly side being that I grew up such a tomboy. It helped me gained confidence as well, growing up I was bullied for being darkskin & skinny! The modeling industry showed me I was beautiful not just on the outside but inside as well.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Covid 19 just showed even more how much god is real. One thing about me I’m very spiritual & I believe everything happens for a reason & that we should always be prepared “stay ready so you don’t got to get ready” love the people who love you, tomorrows not promised!
