Today we’d like to introduce you to Yanna Ren.
Hi Yanna, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
The story should throw back to my childhood dream; I was obsessed with the gowns in the princess movies. I studied Fine Art at a boarding school in Shanghai, China. After finishing the arts school, luckily, a music company contracted me. I became the leader of a girls’ band, designing our costumes for stage performances. Years later, I went back to Tokyo and enrolled in a Fashion Academy.
In 2013, another lucky year, after performing for fifteen years, one of the sponsors, Budweiser, supported me to visit the NBA All-Star Game. That’s how I met my ex-husband in the U.S. and designed my first wedding gown. I kept designing gowns and selling online as a stay-at-home mom for five years. Until I moved to San Diego, I became a Collection Designer for a bridal shop. But the shop closed during Covid, and my apartment flooded at the beginning of quarantine. We had been kicked out by the leasing office for two months, and my ankle was broken at a skatepark. Wait! You must think it’s a horrible tragedy. Of course not! Life changed because of adversity. First, I have to thank EDD and my parents for supporting me during the hardship of Covid, most thankful for my faithful thoughts. I was nonstop in designing more and more bridal gowns. I finally opened Full Moon Bridal before my dad passed away from cancer. I feel sad sometimes, because he is my first Art teacher. I always remember how he encouraged me when learning new things and facing the challenges.
Even though I am an entrepreneur now, I aim to make each piece of dress the same as each piece of art. I enjoy working at my showroom, filled with happiness and tears.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Absolutely not a smooth road; I am still struggling sometimes. Countless challenges and obstacles. I believe life is not easy for everyone; happiness comes after tough times. Life combines with sweetness, happiness, painful, and a little bitter. But always remember: Keep moving on with smile and faith.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I love all the artworks. As a Bridal Designer, I believe the best design is pop out each Bride-to-be personally and different body shape. I seem to my clients are the subjects, and my arts/designs to shine them on. My goal is making all the brides look beautiful and confident, not just focusing on the dress design, also the quality and details of the production chain are very important.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
I am an immigrant, speaking English the most challenging part. But I never give up on learning and keep trying.
