Check out Patrick Butler’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patrick Butler.

Patrick, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I grew up in a west suburb of Chicago and I studied multimedia at a local university before moving out to San Diego for grad school in 2010. I studied Film Producing at John Paul the Great in Scripps Ranch (which is now in Escondido) and met my wife here and decided to stick around. I worked for a startup agency called Yellow Line Digital wearing many different hats before eventually setting off on my own as a full-time freelance motion designer. It took me a while to find my way to animation, but I love it. It’s very exciting to continue to grow and improve in such a vast field.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
Most of my clients are creative agencies or directors so I’m usually executing someone else’s vision. I actually really love doing this kind of collaborative work, but in my spare time, I try to look for small projects that I can do for fun. I mostly just try to hone my skills and I hope that people find what I create enjoyable to watch.

How can artists connect with other artists?
The Motion Design industry is actually very active online. There are amazing Slack groups and communities on Twitter and other platforms. These are great places to ask questions and mingle with other artists. I’ve learned so much and gotten so many connections through these platforms. There are also great meetups and events. There is a huge conference in Las Vegas called NAB that I’m headed to this year which is a great place to meet with like-minded professionals. With the internet, it’s easy to stay put in your studio behind your screen but you can also use it to find great ways to meet with people face to face.

Another piece of advice that I’ve taken is to not be shy about reaching out to other artists you admire. Ask them to meet for coffee or have a Skype conversation. People love to talk with others and pass on their expertise. It’s human nature. People are usually flattered when someone asks them for advice, so do it!

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I’m on Instagram, Dribbble, Twitter and Vimeo @prbmotion. That’s where most of my stuff is posted. I don’t have a regular content marketing schedule, I just post things as they happen and as I have time. People can find out more about me at my website prbmotion.com and I’m always open to new collaborations and projects.
