Today we’d like to introduce you to Reco Burton.
Reco, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
As far as my story goes, I started drawing when I was about 7 and didn’t know that I could draw until my mother saw my picture at work and told me I had something going on. After that the ball kept rolling downhill with me drawing. I was always upset about how my favorite shows and cartoons ended so I took it upon myself to create my own art and story lines to change the narrative to my fashion. I use to draw comics and paper figurines of characters and I kept just building of that.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I LOVE to draw and starting to figure out digital coloring to add more life to my work. I’m inspired by many things such as comic book artist, certain style of animations, work from different artist, movies and just a way of putting my own twist to what I see around me. As far as what people should know about my artwork it’s the fact that it’s in a way very therapeutic to me seeing that I have been battling depression for as long as I remember. People should take away the fact that no matter what they have going on in life you can use creativity as an outlet to help cope with whatever issues or dilemmas they have in life.
What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
I feel that if you impact at least one person, that’s success!!! As an artist you’re going to have some problems and trouble on your voyage and the best quality to have is a high drive to keep pushing. Motivation is a great characteristic to have because it will keep you wanting to do better and it’s going to benefit you and your work.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
You can find my work on Instagram for the most part. I try to post something at least once a day to stay consistent and show the progress that I’m going through. Support for my work can be shown in many ways. Reposting work that you like from my page alone is a good way. I’m in the process of coming out with prints so people have something to purchase and hang on their walls. Another great way to support is just to compliment anything if you like it. (Who doesn’t love a compliment?)
