Today we’d like to introduce you to Rene Gonzales.
Rene, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Wow, it’s been so many years where to begin. I’ve been a pro makeup artists for literally half of my life but, I’ve literally grown up in the industry. Modeling, and some commercials, and beauty pageants. The funny thing about that was, I was a Tomboy growing up and didn’t even want to be modeling. My parents made me. I went to college at Cal State San Marcos Studying Sociology and Business. I was even on Greek Council there. It wasn’t until I tried to sit in an office that I realized that wasn’t for me. I then studied hair and specialized in corrective color and became a color specialist for Redken. Soon after that my inner artist couldn’t resist the urge to get my hands back in makeup. It’s my passion. My clients are my canvas, and I’ve been blessed to share my art with the entire world for 20 + years now.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
My art and my passion is being a celebrity makeup artist. As I stated before I see each person as my personal canvas and I take great pride in each job I work on. Whether it be for a cover of a magazine, fashion weeks fashion shows, TV shows, movies, music videos, or my private clients. My goal is to always help each person’s inner beauty and uniqueness shine as bright as possible and to not let the makeup overpower them. I usually give each client personal tips for their skin or beauty regime while working with them as well as if they need them for on-camera work. My biggest message I would like to convey is to stay humble and always let your work speak for itself. And your outer beauty only can shine bright if you have inner beauty.
Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
I would have to say, being taken seriously. This isn’t our hobby. It’s our career. It’s how we pay our bills and make our living. I’ve had education in this and continue to. The other biggest problem for makeup artists is all the people doing free work. It diminishes what us pros do and also makes it that much harder for us all to get paid the way we deserve.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
People can google my name, Rene Gonzales, or my team name for my company, C & E Makeup Artistry Team. They may also follow my business Facebook page for C&E Makeup Artistry Team, Twitter, and IG. Or my personal, pro page for IG is MUARene Gonzales.
As well as IGTV. I may have missed a place but, I’m sure you can find more from there. You can see my work on various covers of magazines such as, “Trending Luxury Magazine,” “Pump,” and in “Maxim Italia,” “PSM, magazine, Europe.” As well as on Will Ferrell’s TV Channel for my special effects work for my transformations of celebrities into “Melania and Donald Trump as well as Ivanka.” I currently have work all over the world right now. Europe, Asia, Italy, the USA, and Mexico. I may have forgotten a few. I’m always humbled and appreciative of any and all support. You can also get my pro tips through my beauty column I write for, “Luxe Kurvs Magazine.”
