Today we’d like to introduce you to Sabina Avery.
Sabina, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
My aunt, also named Sabina, is the owner of the flower shop I work out of, Sea of Flowers (3060 Bonita road CV, 91910). She’s always worked with flowers, and when I was a little girl, she would take me to work with her on occasion. This is how my love for flowers started. As I got older, I was doing my own thing, studies journalism and never imagined I’d end up in the floral industry. I love working with flowers. It makes going to work so much more rewarding.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I began casually creating flower crowns for myself, my friends and my daughter. I decided to then create an Instagram account for them and quickly started receiving orders. I love making expectant mothers, brides, birthday girls, etc. feel beautiful. I get lots of flower crown orders for maternity photo shoots and love the idea that my flower crowns will last forever in their photos. They are just a beautiful and unique thing to give. I also get really large orders for cheerleading squads and as party favors for events. I’m always trying to think of new designs and floral accessories. I also make flower crowns for graduation caps, graduation flower leis and recently started selling floral belly sashes for expectant mothers.
Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
I think being an artist is tough because there are so many amazing artists. The industry and competition are huge! I studied art in junior college and saw so many artists with unique ideas. In this industry it’s important to find your special niche and blast it to the world.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
My work is mostly shown on social media and my website.

I take orders through all of my social media accounts, website, phone, text and even Offer Up. The best way to support my work is by sharing it! It really makes a difference when my clients share my crowns and tag my social media accounts.
