Today we’d like to introduce you to Sabrina Ruediger.
Sabrina, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
My story began with a camera. I was about five when I first found love for photography. I always had my camera with me and was always taking photos. I traveled a lot growing up and was intrigued by capturing images of new places and people. I liked the feeling of being behind the lens; I felt safe. I was able to create and expose raw moments without being seen. It has since brought me a lot of joy and happiness in my life. I have hundreds of photos documenting my friendships and travels and it is so fun to look back and remember. What led me to starting a business was a friend asking me to shoot her engagement photos and it was my first experience doing photography purposefully and not just as for my own pleasure. She loved them so much she asked me to shoot her wedding in Colorado.
I quickly found that I very much enjoy shooting people as well as landscapes and started social media for my work and then came clients and jobs! It’s been an amazing journey and I have so many people to thank for helping me on the path. All I can hope for it that I continue to grow and improve and work with people to create art together.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I do a lot of portraits, weddings, and engagements, but I also love to do projects on the side. I have done a few I’m very pleased with that bring multiple social justice issues to light particularly around mental health and the experience of women living in today’s world. My inspiration is my experience.
Do current events, local or global, affect your work and what you are focused on?
I find that art is incredibly impactful when bringing light to our world’s state of being and events. I believe there is a lot of strength in visual representations of emotions and important issues in addition to and combined with literature. My art in particular as I mentioned before is absolutely impacted by my experience as a woman and with my journey with living with bipolar and addiction. I think it is most powerful when things shock and sometimes offend people. I think that is where we can come together and learn from one another.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I have a website and an Instagram account. I have had one piece published by the International Bipolar Foundation and I hope and intend to enter some in art walks and shows.
