Check out Sergio Gutierrez’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sergio Gutierrez.

Sergio, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I was first a musician starting out playing guitar in a small town called Los Lunas in New Mexico when I was 15 yrs old. Fast forward to 10 years later in California; I pick up a paintbrush after being inspired by a photo of my parents on the computer screen who were still living back home. I did a quick sketch of the photo and found it to be pretty damn good! So I sought out to learn more. I learned quickly as I knew I was about to leave my day job as a gemologist at the Gemological Institute of America in Carlsbad, CA. So, I bought books, studied youtube video of painting techniques, and studied the business of selling art. with all of these resources at my disposal along with the discipline to consistently study; I became a painting machine. This was in 2011. It’s now 2019 and Im typing this inside my very own gallery surrounded by my work. The gallery is in Escondido, CA on-site at Forgotten Barrel Winery. Paintings used to go for a couple of hundred dollars, and I am proud to say that I do a lot of charity work just selling $38,000 for one painting that went towards a 4-month-old baby boy named Jack who was born unconscious. 100% went to Jack in hopes that he will pull through so that he can go through this amazing journey called life.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I mainly work with acrylic paint on canvas/wood.

Here’s a bit straight from my website:
Sergio Gutierrez has used his performing arts career to heavily influence his practice of painting and creating a wide range of pieces in the styles of abstraction, conceptual art, new realism, and photorealism. Being a self-taught artist picking up a brush at the beginning of 2011, Sergio’s paintings, with their striking contrasts, colorful patterns, and exuberantly painted imagery, give the expression of his high positivity and passion for the arts in many different forms. Interested in painting portraits and nude themes, Sergio Gutierrez always conveys a sense of joy and generosity of spirit.

I think the most unique part of the majority of the portraits that I paint are the fact that I paint them live in front of an audience. It’s not enough that I paint live in front of an audience.

“Sergio’s Live Art and Live Music” pairs acoustic guitar performance with large-scale acrylic paintings on canvas, a one-man show that flows naturally from music to visual art.

Beginning with live acoustic music, he then drops the guitar and picks up a paintbrush! While painting, the perfect playlist of music for your event sets the mood.

The performance comes full circle as Sergio completes the painting. The show can be 2 hours of atmospheric experience, or a 20-minute session opener… fully customizable to the client’s vision!

Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
The masses not appreciating what goes into creating great pieces of art. there’s an overload of great artists producing great art, and like in any industry, there are mediocre artists creating mediocre art. That’s why I invite you to visit the gallery to hang out, get to know me and watch me create in order to realize what goes into the paintings- heart, soul, time, drive, imagination, and passion.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
My work is posted on my site – www.sergiosfineart.com.
