Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherie Hoffman.
Sherie, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I grew up creating art. I practices different forms of dance, and played the piano. in college, continued by Studying backstage theatre arts finishing with a Master of Fine Art. Then for about 18 years, I full out of touch until a neighbor started inviting over. Him and I would hang out spend hours sitting around his table drawing slowly started piquing my interest and my whole world started shifting.
When I was moving into a space of my own after sharing for all my life I decided the only things I was going to decorate my walls with was hand made items and from there the painting began. My walls are now covered and my studio is bursting at the seams with art! If I am not painting, I am crocheting and dying! Art is in my DNA!
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I spent the past year exploring what I call a mandala flower which bloomed out of my study of the flower of life and well mandalas. I use acrylic paints and paint markers for these because I love the precision I can get from the markers. Recently I have started a new series of spirals, for me, art is a way for me to let go of the perceived control that I have on life and to let whatever happens on the canvas happen, in the end, I have fallen in love with almost every piece. Painting is a type of meditation for me that has helped me get through some tough times. It helps me connect to my Source energy and when I do, I feel I am connecting the all the great painters who have come before me. For me, Art and the process of creating it are more than the art but also a way to heal mentally.
Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
Fear of failure. Putting ourselves out there and being open to criticism, but also understanding that as an artist it is not about what others think, but what the process means to me. Maybe no one will enjoy my pieces but for me, it brings me to a place of joy, happiness, bliss and most of all love.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
Currently, I am on Instagram @earthnativecreations and Facebook. I am in the process of raising money to expand my studio space and always looking for places to display my work.
