Check out Shizue Harrison’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shizue Harrison.

Shizue, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
When I was a kid my inspirations for drawing were animated TV shows, animated movies, and illustrated children’s books. In my teens I continued to be influenced by stories told through animation and gained an interest in comics. During high school I began attending a Saturday art class on creating comics. From there I went on to pursue a degree in animation. While in school I learned that I enjoy the pre-production aspect of animation production, specifically storyboard and character design. I freelanced in illustration and storyboard for a while. Eventually I joined a stereoscopic conversion company in San Diego. While it was not an artistic role, I gained experience working in a large-scale production pipeline on feature films. After the studio closed its doors in San Diego, I continued my freelance as a digital artist focusing on character design, illustration, and storyboard.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
My freelance experience includes digitally designing characters for animation, comics, illustrated books, and educational material. A large part of why I love character stories is working through challenges to create appealing characters that viewers feel like they can relate to or feel like they know someone like that. My goal is for viewers to be drawn to a story or design and feel something stir within them.

How can artists connect with other artists?
Look on social media for local artist meetups that pertain to your art ex: sketch groups, drink and draws, plein air gatherings. If you cannot find one that is local, then join online art communities where you can post your art and give/ receive critiques and build a rapport within your community. Conventions can also be a good way to make connections and build friendships. If you’re interested in animation and pop culture then conventions like San Diego Comic Con, Wonder Con, Anime Expo, Designer Con, and Creative Talent Network Expo are great places to meet fellow artists.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
My art can be viewed on my website https://shizueharrison.com and on Instagram @shizzbot. You can support my work by following and liking my art on social media. In the future I plan to have an online shop where prints can be purchased.
