Check out Spencer Witt’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Spencer Witt.

Spencer, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I am a Toy Photographer and have been doing it for two and a half years. I got into toy photography (and collecting action figures), the end of 2015. Star Wars: The Force Awakens was about to hit theaters, and my love of Star Wars “awoke” with it. Growing up I loved toys, and action figures, and at this time I started to collect Star Wars figures again. At this time, I was commuting to law school, and my time on the train I discovered other toy photographers, and one page, @starwarstheblackseries made me want to shoot toys. At first, I mainly collected Hasbro 6 inch action figures from their Star Wars the Black Series Line. Since then I have branched into other lines, including Hot Toys Collectibles, Sideshow Collectibles, Mezco, Tamashi Nations SH Figuarts, and more. I enjoy shooting toys because part of the trick is to make it not look like a toy, and it allows me to create stories from movies, comics, or put characters in situations we have never seen before.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I create images using toys, and other collectibles. It has become my creative outlet. I shoot toys because I like the challenge of making these action figures look real. I hope when people look at my work, they will think it is a still from a movie or other piece of popular culture. I would love people to be inspired to create their own art and express themselves however they would like. I have had many interesting stares of people watching me shoot toys, but so many others wanting to learn more about my art. I have met some of my best friends through this hobby.

Have things improved for artists? What should cities do to empower artists?
It is a great time to be an artist. Especially a photographer. There are so many tools available to us that, until recently, would require really expensive professional level gear. Cities can continue to encourage and help artists by helping promote art and education.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
Currently, my work can be seen on Instagram and Facebook. I am in the process of building a website.
