Check out Stephanie Bonit’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Bonit.

Stephanie, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
As a kid, I always wanted to be an artist. I wasn’t sure which direction to go, a painter, photographer, I wanted to be involved in anything crafty. But then, I was introduced to origami, and the art of paper folding captivated me. Creating forms and dimensions from a single sheet of paper amazed me. Intricacy, clean forms, and attention to details are characteristics of origami that I’ve transitioned into my design work today.

In Spring 2017, I graduated from SDSU with a Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design. There I was also a teaching assistant for Packaging Design and Senior Portfolio classes. I found working with the students were fulfilling because I’m able to pass on my knowledge from freelancing and networking experiences. I’ve been fortunate to be surrounded by amazing and talented people to help mentor me along my journey as a designer. I hope to do the same in the future for other younger designers. I hope to gain more experience in the field and work towards graduate school in the near future.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do? Why? And what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I’m a designer, crafter, and photographer by trade. I’m passionate about combining my three biggest assets to create meaningful art. My work ranges from digital design, packaging, and photography (such as product shots, portraits, or community events). I want people to see from my perspective. Strategic timing and precision are important in my work, whether digital or handmade. I’m always “thinkering.” While working with my hands, prototyping or sketching, I’m already conceptualizing in my mind at the same time before I start working on the computer. I’m able to switch between big picture thinking too small, intricate details. Art is not just a result of the ideas running through my mind but it is a means to communicate non-verbally.

What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
The definition of success to me as an artist is to have my artwork portray a message or spark new ideas in others. Everyone will have their own viewpoints, but if my art evokes or inspires creativity for at least one person, then I’m happy. Essential qualities to success as an artist are to appreciate the process, work wholeheartedly, and with intention.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
