Today we’d like to introduce you to Sunnie Heers.
Sunnie, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I’ve loved photography ever since I was little, and would always run around with a camera taking photos of anything and everything. When I went to college, I started studying film photography as a hobby even though my degree was in Marketing. Eventually I was spending every moment I could developing photos in the darkroom, shooting, or studying other artists’ work. That’s when I knew I wanted to pursue my passion and make a career out of photography!
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I would say my wedding photography journey began as a desire to make photoshoots an experience for couples to fall in love even more, and less of an obligation! I started shooting couples when I was 18, and haven’t looked back since. I focus on adventurous and intimate shoots, whether it’s climbing a mountain to get bridals at sunrise, eloping underneath a waterfall, or camping all weekend on the beach for engagements. I know personally that when I look at a photo, it brings me back to how I felt in that moment. And that’s what I want the couples I shoot to remember- how wildly in love, joyful, and adventurous they are!
Have things improved for artists? What should cities do to empower artists?
I think it is an amazing time for artists to grow! I get nearly 100% of my bookings through social media, and it connects me to couples all over the world. It’s all about getting your work out there, putting effort in every single day, and creating a strong brand.
