Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Steers.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Taylor Steers and I am a co-founder of Tap Truck – established in 2016 and based out of sunny San Diego, CA! Tap Truck is a beverage catering company that specializes in converting vintage American muscle cars to include draft systems. We install taps directly onto the side of the vehicle to pour anything from your favorite local craft beer to boutique wines to in-house crafted signature cocktails. Our business came about when I was 24 years old and my business partner, Corbin O’Reilly was 25. Corbin had started his first BBQ catering company when he was 22. Doing hundreds of weddings a year with BBQ we both knew there was another part of the industry we were looking to enter into. Thus the concept of Tap Truck was born to take beverage catering by storm! I have a huge love and passion for a quality craft beer while Corbin has a deep love for working on trucks, tractors, and anything else with a motor.
With my knowledge of the beer industry and how to build draft systems along with Corbin’s mechanical skills, we set out to buy a 1952 Chevy Panel of Craigslist. We limp it back to our driveway of the house, and begin to restore and convert it right there. It all started with that one truck. We now have bought, restored, and converted over 40 different Tap Trucks. We have begun to license our Tap Truck label for others to follow our suit. Tap Trucks are now spread across the United States and even World Wide (Canada for now)! Tap Truck can be found currently in 45 different cities! It’s been a wild ride thus far, working with great people who have a passion for vintage vehicles and a tasty pint! Keep your eyes out for us cruising through your neighborhood!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There is a lot to running and owning your own business. You’re never off the clock and there is always someone else out there looking to compete. The road has not been smooth to say the least but as long as you do what you love and stay focused on yourself, there’s no bump too big in the road.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Other than running a beverage catering company I also work in the alcohol distribution industry. I sell beer for over 20 different breweries to accounts from grocery stores, bars, and neighborhood liquor stores. I am always seeing what’s the hottest new beer to sell, market trends, and of course fine tuning my palette for what makes a great craft beer. This has really set me apart from other beverage catering companies because I have the insight and knowledge for craft beer and what beer to choose when serving on our Tap Trucks. Every event we do I will guarantee to have someone saying, “wow, that’s a great beer”.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
