Check out Tristine Drews’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tristine Drews.

Tristine, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Starting out, my education was focused on business law and political science. I quickly realized that I was meant to be in a creatively driven field and changed my major to Marketing. I got my first “real job” at Kohl’s Corporate in the buying office where I worked directly alongside the photo studio ensuring visual accuracy of our samples provided. I was amazed by the studio experience, and I knew that is ultimately where I belonged. I made every effort I could to make it into a role in the photo studio. I started out in Bonton’s studio in shipping and receiving and worked tirelessly to put together a portfolio on nights and weekends to show that I had the potential to style. I worked my way up to an Assistant Stylist where I really focused on advancing my technical skills. I met my now husband there who is a photographer. I left Bonton and was promoted to a Stylist back at Kohl’s Corporate. After several years there, my husband and I moved to California to branch out into a larger market and grow professionally. I was brought on to Supervise the styling team at the Nordstrom Rack | Hautelook studio (NRHL) and within nine months was promoted to manage two styling teams and oversee operations at two separate NRHL studios. After roughly ten years in the industry, I am now a freelance Photo Art Director and Photo Stylist, represented by Wilhelmina Artists of Los Angeles, working for several global retail clients stretching up and down the coast of California.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I am a product stylist with a focus on soft styling. I am responsible for the overall composition and the execution of each shot. I create movement in clothing that would otherwise lie flat. The goal of each editorial shot is to represent the merchandise to the best of its ability to then be shared by the retailer across all advertising platforms.

What do you know now that you wished you had learned earlier?
My advice is to assist as much as you can before branching out into styling independently and to take in each trick of the trade you can learn from more seasoned stylists. Find a mentor that you can learn from that is willing to show you what they know.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
You can view most of my work on www.tristinedrews.com. You may have seen my work for various retailers in print form, through email, in your social feed and on websites.
