Check out Truth Ali’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Truth Ali.

Truth, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Sure. My story is a little complicated (laughs). But I’ll summarize it as me being a dude who’s been through a lot, and was saved by music. I’ve dealt with depression, to the point of self-harm. But thankfully I’ve grown away from those thoughts. I’m originally from Bakersfield California, but moved to San Diego in 2011. Music has always been in my blood, my grandfather was a jazz/funk singer/songwriter. He’s no longer here in the physical form, so I treat my life as a self-fulfilling prophecy to finish what he started. I started out strictly rapping, but I couldn’t afford the type of production I wanted, so I started producing and making beats too.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I was literally born into Hip-Hop. My uncles are only 7 and 8 years older than me, so they were like my older brothers. They would always make me free style, and I guess without even knowing it they kinda laid the foundation for who I would become. I always try to tell my story through rhyme, because it’s therapeutic. But also I feel like that’s the music that lives forever. Trends come and go, but emotion is forever. Love will be the same 50 years from now, so will pain and joy and so on. When I look at all my favorite artists in all genres, they all have the one common denominator of authenticity, and again emotion behind it. So to make a short story long (laughs) my inspiration is everything I see and feel in my world.

Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
I try to have a positive outlook on things, but I guess what’s most difficult is getting people to give the initial listen. The industry is a little over saturated, because it’s easier to record and make videos. It’s a gift because you don’t need a record label to be heard, but on the flip everybody feels like they can be a rap artist. So sometimes there’s some bad music to sift through just to get to the good stuff (laughs).

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
My latest project is called “Eye Love You”. It’s on all streaming platforms. I also have a single called “Meanwhile…” that’s being spun on siriusXM. We recently shot a video for that one, so that’ll be coming out fairly soon.
