Today we’d like to introduce you to Vinny Dee.
Vinny, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I was born and raised in Boston, MA but moved out here for work. I literally drove from Massachusetts to California by myself. I’ve been working in San Diego for a year now and have been pursuing music professionally ever since then, even though, I have been involved in music since the 6th grade.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I am an acoustic singer songwriter. I write about myself for the most part but not just on a surface level. I write about emotions and situations that I have dealt with that other people have as well. When I say situations, I mean serious ones like depression, lost love, unfaithfulness, deep love and even prejudice experiences. It’s all very personal and some songs are meant to be hard to listen to lyrically. Some of them are tailored to listen to when you’re out on a drive with your friends trying to have a good time because those are just as important, but some talk about some seriously deep topics while still retaining basic musicality and while being pleasant to listen to.
Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
Getting people to like you is a huge struggle. Music these days is all about popularity. Earlier this year, I met a homeless man who was an absolute best story teller and musicians and performer but he probably has one fan to his name and that is me. I’m a fairly shy and quiet person and initially, I don’t come off as much so it’s hard for me to make friends but that doesn’t mean that my music isn’t good or I shouldn’t pursue a career in music. To me social media and popularity is an ever growing struggle.
