Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandra Shearer
Hi Alexandra, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
The company was started by myself, my parents, and my 3 siblings. As a family of 6, we have had the wonderful opportunity to travel the world together from a young age. This knowledge and deep passion inspired us to share travel with others. After visiting all 7 continents and over 60 countries together, we decided to turn our passion into a business. Out came – JACA Travel.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Starting an agency from scratch is anything but a smooth road. There are several routes you can go when wanting to start your career in travel. We knew we wanted this business to be our own, which meant starting from the bottom and building up rather than being under a bigger umbrella. My mom worked in the travel industry for 15+ years on the airline side. Her and my dad were always our trip planners. They were a huge support system while navigating an industry that was new for me, and forming a business around it.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We are a luxury travel agency based in San Diego that sells worldwide destinations. Most people want the unique travel experience, but don’t want the stress involved in planning it. That’s where we come in.
Our team of luxury travel experts create seamless start-to-finish experiences. Our itineraries are customized to every travelers needs. We do everything from giving destination recommendations to detailed itinerary planning.
What sets up apart from other agencies is how much personal travel experience we have. Anywhere you want to go, we have most likely been there as well. We have first hand destination knowledge from personal experience all over the world. This means real insights, local knowledge, and honesty around the trip.
My personal expertise is in Africa. It’s a bit of a passion of mine and I want everyone in the world to experience it. But as I mentioned, we plan trips all over the world.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I think there was a dip in the need for travel agents for awhile, but we’re seeing a rise again. People are wanting more unique experiences, not cookie cutter trips. People are also prioritizing travel again after several years at home, which means more need for us in general. I think this will continue to be the case as consumers recognize the importance of first-hand knowledge.
