Community Highlights: Meet Anais Alasne Munoz of This is not a Dream

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anais Alasne Munoz.

Hi Anais Alasne, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
From an early age, I was drawn to the beauty industry. Always at home surrounded by products with different textures, bright colors, and pleasant scents. Watching my grandmother do her beauty ritual every morning was fascinating and consequently inspiring. I studied other careers before deciding to follow my heart and finally dedicate myself to this world of personal care and beauty. I obtained my Cosmetology License first while working in a department store well known for selling makeup, skincare, and fragrance.

A year after, I noticed changes in my skin and started to pay more attention to it. That is how I got into skincare; it didn’t take long for me to decide to go back to school to obtain an Esthetician license. After school, I was fortunate enough to get a job as an Esthetician at a renowned spa in San Diego where I learned even more about skincare and how to treat the skin properly.

In March 2020, everything changed. After so much uncertainty, I decided to embark on a new journey. I have always been a dreamer, and for a long time, I aspired to create a space dedicated to self-care, share with my community a place where folks can disconnect, relax and at the same time learn about their skin. That is when the process of building This is not a Dream started in my hometown, Tijuana.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a fun journey. Family, friends, and fellow estheticians have supported me in many ways, which made everything lighter. But I have had moments of struggle, mainly because I manage this project myself. Being an esthetician, receptionist, managing social media, and making sure linens are always clean can be overwhelming, so having a good balance between work and personal life can be challenging.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about This is not a Dream?
This is not a Dream is known for facials in a unique place that channels a dreamy atmosphere and universe. I specialize in professional and personalized treatments for you and your skin, all from an integral point of view, considering several aspects such as your lifestyle. We believe that self-love is doing what makes us happy and that caring for the skin is a way of loving ourselves. We prefer tenderness, not “fixing,” achieving “perfect complexion,” and ‘erasing pores.’ We like to understand our skin, to love and take better care of it. This is not a dream is also about sharing things I enjoy. So you can expect a lot of music recommendations and playlists.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
