Community Highlights: Meet Andrea of The sweet Plug

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Five years ago, my journey began in the simplest of ways—experimenting in my kitchen, creating chamoy gummies purely out of curiosity and creativity. What started as a small passion project soon grew into something much bigger. Through dedication, consistency, and belief in myself, that passion evolved into a thriving candy business that I proudly own today.

In September 2024, my life changed forever. I lost my better half, Alejandro Contreras, due to the careless actions of a drunk driver. The loss was devastating, and the pain was compounded by the lack of justice that followed. Grief, heartbreak, and disappointment became part of my daily reality, leaving me emotionally shattered.

In the depths of that grief, I made a choice—to transform my pain into purpose. In July 2025, I founded The Alejandro Contreras Foundation, a nonprofit organization created to support families and individuals navigating the same unimaginable loss and devastation I experienced. Through the foundation, we provide community assistance, back-to-school giveaways, and holiday support, ensuring families feel seen, supported, and not alone during their hardest moments.

Beyond my nonprofit work, I also coordinate Alex’s Pop-Up Market, a monthly community event held in Paradise Hills that brings together local vendors, small businesses, and families. The market serves as a space for connection, support, and empowerment for entrepreneurs within our community.

In addition to my entrepreneurial and nonprofit endeavors, I am a professional makeup artist with over 15 years of experience, specializing in bridal makeup. Helping clients feel confident, beautiful, and celebrated during life’s most meaningful moments has been one of the most rewarding parts of my career.

My story is one of resilience, growth, and purpose. From building a business in my kitchen to honoring the love I lost through community service and advocacy, I continue to move forward with intention—proving that even in the face of profound loss, it is possible to create impact, hope, and lasting change

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a business is never easy, especially in a market filled with strong competition. I still remember my very first pop-up event—there were many challenges along the way. However, with time, dedication, and persistence, everything began to fall into place. What once felt overwhelming gradually became easier. Success truly requires patience, consistency, and the willingness to keep going even when the journey feels difficult
