Community Highlights: Meet April Douglas of My PT 2 Go

Today we’d like to introduce you to April Douglas.

April Douglas

Hi April, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
My PT 2 Go opened up in 2019 with the goal of providing a better option for patients to receive quality, individualized care.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We opened just before the pandemic, so it was definitely an uncertain time. There was a lot of pivoting and getting creative, but people still needed medical care during this time. With us being mobile and in clinic, it made it a lot easier to accommodate our patients.

As you know, we’re big fans of My PT 2 Go. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My PT 2 Go is a concierge Physical Therapy practice that specializes in Orthopedics and Pelvic Floor. Orthopedics is what most people imagine Physical Therapy to be: ACL surgeries, broken bones, rotator cuff injuries, return to sport, and general aches and pains. Pelvic Floor is not what most people imagine. Some of the issues we handle are incontinence, erectile dysfunction, diastasis recti, testicular pain, constipation, prolapse, and pelvic pain.

Because we treat both orthopedics and pelvic floor, we are able to handle almost all patients and give a more holistic view of their case.

Our staff has had one foot in the clinic and one foot in the classroom as professors. We love staying fresh on what’s going on in research and providing amazing, high-quality care.

For treatments, we offer in clinic as well as mobile/home visits. We meet our patients where they are at, mentally and physically.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
For future or freshly graduated clinicians, I would highly recommend finding a mentor and/or finding a clinic that aligns with their values. Because insurance is paying less and less to providers, clinics and hospitals are being forced to stack more and more patients on schedules. As a result, patients are getting low quality care and less time with their medical provider.

Something has to change, and it all starts with working at places that align with values.

Clinicians should be lifelong learners and looking for people and places that provide them with a learning environment.
