Today we’d like to introduce you to Aztec Music Group
Hi Aztec Music Group, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Founded in 2015, Aztec Music Group is a student organization at San Diego State that bridges the gap between music and business. Our mission is to provide entertainment, artist development/exposure, performance opportunities, and music industry knowledge to the San Diego State University community.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Along with any organization, AMG has had its ups and downs. After being banned from house shows in 2023, the club faced a hiatus and eventual decline. House shows were a large part of our culture & reach throughout campus in recent years, having that suddenly swept left us with a large gap to fill. Fall 2024 has been about building back the foundation across campus through not only a variety of guest speakers & meeting activities, but the December 6th Acoustic Night. This was our first backyard show in over a year-and it thankfully went fantastic!
Regarding spring 2025, we’re optimistic for continued growth through house shows, an album in the works, more guest speakers, and more!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Our student-run organization welcomes singers, songwriters, musicians, A&R, promoters, marketers, journalists, photographers, videographers, graphic designers, event coordinators, producers and ANYONE WHO WANTS TO BE A PART OF THE MUSIC INDUSTRY! We encourage collaboration across a variety of fields.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Whether it’s from general body meetings, on-campus events, or off-campus venues, AMG loves witnessing the amazing synergy sparking the creation of bands, thought-provoking discussions, collaboration, and more.
