Community Highlights: Meet Brandon O’donoghue of brandch

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon O’donoghue

Hi Brandon, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Some businesses start as an idea for personal growth or gain-ours started as a vision to prepare you, for yours. Meaning our vision for our clients, is to help them be prepared as much as possible for their purpose and vision for their business.

Brandch began from a simple yet powerful idea: to make exceptional design accessible and centered on client needs, breaking away from agencies that overlook vision in favor of quick fixes. These are our tools to empower your business, and prepare (tools) you for yours (vision).

Frustrated by the lack of genuine connection and innovative execution in the design industry, Brandch founder Chris envisioned a creative agency focused on partnership, excellence, and storytelling. Joined by Charlee & Brandon O’Donoghue- we all started to create something magical for small businesses and large alike. After having previously worked with companies like Dash Coin, Verizon, JP Morgan & Target- we wanted to make GREAT design and branding accessible to small businesses, because we realized that it was a huge mark on whether their products could be carried forward.

Today, Brandch embodies these values by prioritizing people, guiding ambitious ideas to life, and ensuring every project resonates deeply with a brand’s identity and long-term goals. We love small/medium businesses, local businesses and everything in between!

We are formed by unique personalities and gifts merging together, right and left brains, designers and history teachers, developers in the dot com boom and marketers. We’re all from sunny San Diego as a start, and have ventured out to become national with new headquarters in Coeur d’Alene.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No journey is without struggle, and no path is without a few bumps in the road- especially for design and branding agencies.

It was hard at first trying to figure out how to create systems of design and branding that made sense to small businesses. You’ll often hear the nightmare story of the marketing agency that ghosted their client, did the wrong things, or the web designer who never delivered the website and left a small business $10k in the hole. We were desperate to stray away from these impressions small businesses had of designers and marketers- and it was an uphill battle of earning trust and respect in the industry.

We also had a lot of different views of marketing than what was floating around at the time of brandch’s inception. We believe we should never celebrate tools, over celebrate colors and fonts, or copy text, rather focus only on results and value. We teach our clients that marketing is an equation, “communicating + your value + to your audience = marketing”. And each component of the equation is a placeholder that can look like many things. Communicating can look like social media, or a website, or a flier, a billboard- and your value is your company and it’s unique position.

Amongst other different views we had, this made it hard at first to help others see the real value of quality marketing, design and branding as a service- because they were used to paying their cousins to do their website at a low cost or their friend of a friend who knows how to do email campaigns. But never a full system that supported long term growth. We had to learn how to find our audience to serve, and how to serve them exceptionally well because they are often coming to us after having a bad experience with another agency or freelancer.

We’ve been impressed with brandch , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At Brandch, we’re passionate about helping businesses grow with bold creativity, excellent strategies and measurable results that make sense for their goals. We specialize in building unforgettable brands, designing high performing websites, and implementing marketing systems that work seamlessly and are sustainable. We serve many industries, from real estate brokers to life coaches, the top AR/VR agency in the U.S., to e-commerce brands and plumbers, because at the core of what we do is a commitment to helping you solve your brand’s biggest problems and delivering value and impact.

We have a couple things that set us apart from other agencies who do what we do. First, is our focus on Primal Branding. A philosophy developed by Patrick Hanlon, we use a proven framework that fortune 500 companies use to transform businesses into brands people believe in. By defining key elements of your brand’s creation story, creed and purpose, we create connections with your audience that go beyond surface-level marketing interactions, but build lasting loyalty with your audience.

Second, is that we radically embrace the philosophy of Unreasonable Hospitality. We are rooted in thoughtfulness, going above and beyond at every interaction with our clients because we care, a lot. And it’s cool to care. We apply this in many ways, whether it’s uncovering unique insights to solve complex challenges, bringing unexpected touches to your brand’s execution, or simply mailing our clients a new seasoning they told us they wanted to try. We listen and we embody hospitable values because that’s our job, to provide exceptional service in an industry that over values output over connection.

Brandch is a creative growth agency, but our work goes farther than just beautiful design or cool branding experiences, we focus heavily on results and sustainability for the businesses we serve. The growth-driven strategies we create and implement have to make sense for your industry, your business stage and unique needs, so that we can create measurable success. From complete rebrands, to single campaigns, our work is always built to last and with long term brand health practices in mind so that you can stand out even in the most competitive markets.

What we are most proud of, is the trust we build with our clients. We’re not just their agency, we’re often their partner, their advocate and creative ally in tough business challenges. If you’re ready to take that challenge, we can help.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
