Today we’d like to introduce you to Bree Nishibun.
Hi Bree, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
For five years, I worked in the insurance-based physical therapy world, where high patient volumes and limited treatment approvals made it difficult to provide the level of care my patients truly needed. Sessions felt rushed, progress was dictated by insurance rather than science, and the system prioritized cost-cutting over real recovery. I saw firsthand how athletes and active individuals were left frustrated—forced to stop treatment before they were ready or denied the care that could prevent future injuries.
That experience fueled my passion to create OUT Performance—a practice built on the belief that physical fitness is healthcare. Here, strength and movement aren’t just afterthoughts; they’re the foundation of recovery, resilience, and peak performance. Without insurance restrictions, I can focus on what matters most: personalized, evidence-based treatment that helps clients get stronger, move better, and perform at their best—without limitations.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Has it been a smooth road? Not at all—but nothing worth building ever is. Starting OUT Performance meant stepping away from the security of insurance-based care and into the unknown of running my own business. One of the biggest challenges has been getting clients in the door—helping people understand the value of investing in their health beyond what insurance dictates.
On top of that, wearing multiple hats has been a learning curve. I’m not just a physical therapist—I’m also handling marketing, scheduling, finances, and everything else that comes with being a business owner. There have been long days, tough months, and moments of doubt, but seeing clients finally get the care they deserve makes it all worth it. Every challenge has reinforced why I started this journey: to create a space where strength, movement, and performance are prioritized without limitations.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about OUT Performance ?
OUT Performance specializes in strength and sports performance for athletes, active individuals, and everyone in between. With a strong belief that physical fitness is healthcare, OUT Performance bridges the gap between rehab and performance, helping clients recover, rebuild, and outperform their goals. Whether you’re coming back from injury or looking to reach the next level, this practice is built to move you forward—stronger than ever.
I believe that everyone deserves high-quality care that meets them where they are—regardless of experience level, background, or ability. As an inclusive provider, I create a space where all individuals feel seen, heard, and supported on their journey to strength, recovery, and performance.
What sets me apart from other providers is that education is at the core of what I do. I don’t just treat symptoms—I teach clients how their bodies work, why movement matters, and how to build long-term resilience. Whether you’re an athlete returning to competition, a weekend warrior recovering from injury, or someone looking to move with confidence again, I tailor every session to your needs and goals.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
In regard to my business, success means creating an environment where people learn to trust their bodies, push past self-doubt, and show up for themselves in ways they didn’t think possible. It’s about helping someone realize they can recover, can get stronger, and can take ownership of their health. When my clients thrive—not just in their sport or fitness, but in their mindset, their discipline, and their belief in themselves—that’s success.
In my personal life, I define success as finding balance in all aspects while maintaining good health. As a small business owner, that balance can be a challenge, but I’ve learned to embrace the ebb and flow—knowing that’s just part of the journey, and that’s okay!
