Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Decker.
Hi Brian, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I started out in the mortgage industry right out of college in 2004. After surviving the financial collapse, I lived in Mission Beach and by 2010, I was named the top loan officer to watch in the country after funding $200M that year at 28 years old. I spend the next 9 years working my way up the ranks at Guaranteed Rate (top 4 lender) become the #3 producer in the company out of 4,000. I was then personally recruited by Anthony Hsieh CEO of LoanDepot where I was personally mentored by him for 2 years and was the #1 producer in the country and their poster child for the industry. In 2019 I founded my own mortgage bank Modern Lending based in Riv & SD County and grew that to a billion dollar a year in loan volume. I was consistently named one of the Top 10 People to Watch in the Mortgage Industry. In 2020 I started creating a lot of content on Instagram and Facebook. I was then presented opportunities to start multiple companies with Dan Habib of MBS Highway and a solar company Soar Energy with Tarek & Heather El Moussa of HGTV and Selling Sunset. I have over 250k followers on my social media accounts and am the most followed person in the mortgage industry on social media. My solar company Soar Energy is the fastest growing solar company in the U.S., where I am CEO. Over the last year, I have been a keynote speaker for Tarek El Moussa, Mat Ishbia (owner of UWM largest mortgage co in US & owner of NBA team Phx Suns), Ed Mylett, and Tony Robbins twice. I just finished speaking in front of 8,000 people with Tony Robbins teaching how to use A.I and social media to grow your brand and business. I currently am CEO of Modern Lending, CEO of Soar Energy, and President of Cryptocharged.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not! I survived the financial crash where I lost everything. I have been publicly attacked by the largest players in the mortgage industry when leaving their company because they saw me as a threat. I have had multiple business ventures fail but continued to get up, dust myself off and go even harder to get where I am today. I will not stop until I change the world. My goal is to help educate a million people on becoming more financially educated through my social media channels.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My latest venture is Soar Energy. I own with my partners Tarek & Heather El Moussa, Shelby Elias, and Zain Jan (billionaire solar entrepreneur). The solar industry will grow by 500% by 2030, and the US has made it clear that 40% of homes need to use solar energy by 2030. They put together a $400 billion stimulus plan in fall of 2022 to make this happen. Utility rates in San Diego have increased 130% since 2010 and are rising at more than 10% per year. However, the solar industry is in its infancy, and there is a lot to be improved from a lack of consumer education, customer service, technology, and brand. We have taken our combined 70 years in the real estate industry and partnered up with the most successful solar entrepreneur in the country to provide solar solutions to homeowners that offer the highest qualify, best service, and technology to ensure a homeowner gets a solar system that meets their needs. The industry relies on Excel spreadsheets and CAD drawing. Our CTO has an extensive resume in A.I. and Machine learning development, so we have created proprietary technology that can analyze a home and design the perfect system to meet their energy needs now and in the future as energy consumption increases with more and more homeowners owning EV vehicles. We employ an education-first sales approach very different from the hard-pitch sales forward door-knocking competitors. People do not even realize they can get solar without buying solar panels. If they live in a high-cost area like all of California, they can get free panels put on their home and just buy the power they produce at a fixed rate designed to beat inflation. Our founders Tarek & Heather El Moussa, have built the strongest home improvement brand in the country, and we honor this brand by delivering the best-in-class price, service, and tech
What do you like and dislike about the city?
San Diego is the best city in the world! I love our diversity, but yet everyone has the same laid-back beach-loving vibes. The city has a real entrepreneurial spirit that allows creativity to blossom. What I like least about our city is the complete lack of control of the homeless population. These people have mental health conditions, and we need to treat the clause, not try to ignore it.
Pricing:
- Average SD homeowner is paying $500/mo in electricity costs during the summer
- With adding solar with $0 out of pocket they on average cut their monthly costs by 35%
