Today we’d like to introduce you to Cindi Seifert.
Hi Cindi, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I’m Cindi, a mother to Kyla, my 25-year-old daughter, who has Autism on the severe end of the spectrum and Epilepsy. She is nonverbal has incontinence, and rides in a wheelchair. When she was in her early teens, no matter what I put on her for an outfit, at some point during the day, her diaper in the back would be exposed. She also would reach in and try to dig in her diaper and take off all of her clothes in inappropriate places, which are very common behaviors for many people with autism, Alzheimer’s, and other intellectual disabilities. I wanted to create clothing to hide her diaper and keep her out of it at all times. I felt very alone in these behaviors and could not find any help. So, I took a sewing class and made an adult-sized onesie that snapped in the crotch, like a t-shirt that stays tucked in ALWAYS! I was then inspired to make them as undergarments that she could wear anything over the top of and be super stylish. They worked! Her caregivers and helpers at school loved them so much. At that point I built a website, and I launched it. When I went to do a test order to see how I would get notified, how I would ship, and how I would receive payment, there was an order in there for 4 of them from a brand-new customer! I didn’t even have the fabric and patterns, so I had to figure it our really fast. I JUMPED RIGHT IN! Our company grew very fast, and at that point, I knew we were not alone, and I was on a mission to help other families that were having these same struggles. We now ship worldwide. Our clothing line has now evolved into many sensory-friendly clothing products for incontinence, such as Adult sized onesies and anti-strip bodysuits that zip in the back – they feel like you are wearing a HUG and prevent diaper exposure and very hard behaviors like disrobing and diaper digging, which affects many people from downs syndrome, autism, and even altimeters. Our customers and their caregivers love them, and our outfits have changed lives, making the incontinence part MUCH EASIER and preventing these very challenging behaviors.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has mostly been a smooth road, but there have been some struggles. In the beginning of creating this clothing line, I had to use many trials and errors to find the perfect fabric, zippers and snaps to ensure the quality would hold up. And it is constantly evolving per my client’s feedback. But it has been worth it because we get such wonderful feedback from our customers on how these outfits are changing their lives! Our slogan is Empowering Your Incontinence Journey one garment at a time.
