Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Arielle Caruso.
Hi Dr. Arielle, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Once upon a time I was an art dealer in New York. I worked so hard and was super stressed all the time. After a series of illnesses, I found acupuncture. Acupuncture was the only thing that made my digestive system and stress feel better. I was hooked, and couldn’t look back. I quit my job as an art dealer and decided to travel the world for a year. When I got back, my old life clearly didnt fit, so I moved across the country, landing in San Diego. Lucky for me, one of the best schools in the country for acupuncture is located in San Diego, so I found myself enrolling in the four year doctorate program. Little did I know that many more health crisis’ were on the horizon, such as being diagnoses with endometriosis, having mold exposure multiple times, and the slew of other associated symptoms. I truly believe that all of these sicknesses were sent to me so that I could find my path as a doctor. Each new issue fueled my passion for medicine and the body’s miraculous ability to heal, time and time again. I now have an unparalleled understanding of what it feels like to suffer from an illness and how to heal from it. After graduating Pacific College of Health and Sciences, I opened Arise Acupuncture. My team and I provide high quality health care, integrating acupuncture, functional nutrition, herbal medicine and lifestyle guidance to lead people towards true vitality.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest struggle that I have faced is having two invisible diseases and the medical gaslighting that comes with that. Endometriosis is wildly under diagnosed and so many women are dismissed when they talk about their pains. I see chronic period pain, hip pain, back pain, chronic swelling, migraines, fatigue, painful intercourse – all symptoms of endometriosis, but most often treated with birth control or anti-depresants. I also have the genetic predisposition to not be able to detox from mold exposure. 30% of the population have this, and mold illness is on the rise in san diego due to the coast and climate. Learning about how these two diseases work together and impact one another helped me learn so much about optimization of all body systems. Dealing with chronic illness while running a large busy clinic hasnt been the easiest road, but it has been the most rewarding process of my life.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Arise Acupuncture utilizes Eastern Medicine to address our clients from a holistic lens, taking into account how their mind, body, and spirit are functioning collaboratively. It is our mission to provide individualized healthcare that gets to the root of illness, not just shifting the state of disease, but changing the person as a whole. Can you imagine trying to plant flowers in a garden without tending to the soil first? The whole body system is often overlooked when protocols are put together and people are on this supplement and that drug. If you dont shift the pattern that the body is in, true healing will not occur. This is the magic of what we do at Arise Acupuncture. We tend to the garden of the body so that everything flourishes.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I can’t thank my team of doctors and support staff enough. Arise Acupuncture wouldn’t be what it is without you. It really does take a village to create something big. Every member of our staff puts their whole heart into making this business what it is, and its because of this, that we are able to service so many people in need.
