Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Julia Rosengren
Hi Dr. Julia , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
When I first did one of these interviews, I shared the process of stating the practice. Since then I have expanded and grown into a small group practice. I plan to keep it small so that the quality of care stays the same. I consider us more of a boutique or concierge practice, where we will get on the phone with you outside of sessions, if needed. Supervising and training associate clinicians is a rewarding experience that creates continued growth for me. I teach my patients that we are always changing and growing so I embrace that as well.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The pandemic was quite a challenge. Trying to help people with substance use while they were stuck at home and using presented a significant barrier to their care. Our broken healthcare system is also an ongoing battle that creates significant road blocks for providers and patients. Feeling discouraged and angry at the system seems to be part of the job. I try to stay informed and engage in mental health advocacy to do my part.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
The practice specializes in addiction from a non 12-step approach, depression, anxiety, and relationship problems. My niche is working with people who are not quite ready for change. We are different from other practices because we do not require abstinence from our patients and do not espouse the 12-steps as the only way to get better. We work with teens, adults, and families.
What were you like growing up?
Most psychologists will tell you that they were the friend that their friends came to get support from when they needed it. That was me as well. I have always been curious about the details of any situation and why people do what they do. My struggle with depression and anxiety ended up leading me to the world of psychotherapy as well.
