Community Highlights: Meet Erika Murrietta of Erika Loves To Frost

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erika Murrietta.

Erika Murrietta

Hi Erika, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Cake decorating and designing came out of nowhere for me in the most beautiful way. During the pandemic. I decided to take courses in my local town to hone in on a craft I’d been curious about for a while and never thought I had any natural creativity for- cake decorating!

As I practiced and taught myself- along with countless online teachers via YouTube and other social media platforms, I fell in love with creating something that takes part in people’s special days via cake.

I’ve been blessed over the last couple of years to meet wonderful families and return customers that have given me a chance to create something special for a birthday, wedding, school event, baby showers, and gender reveals.

Decorating cakes is a patience-testing sport as there is A LOT that goes into it- baking, making frostings and fillings from scratch, decorating, and the least fun part- the clean-up. It’s intense, but I love the idea that someone sends me an inspiration photo, and I can re-create or have a jump-off point to start a cake.

I create custom cakes for my local area and surrounding counties.

I love what I do and am so lucky to be part of special events that live on in photos and memories – all via cake!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Cake decorating is certainly never a total smooth road. There’s so much frustration that can come from it- Struggles like: getting the colors the right shade, certain ingredients that don’t always cooperate, panicking if a cake decides it’s not going to hold up there night before.

But the struggles are part of the growing and learning for me. Quite literally, every day, I learn something that helps me improve customer interactions and problem-solving

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business.
I strive to always create the most custom cake possible that matches whatever theme/event/inspiration the customer desires. My main focus before the aesthetics is, of course, offering the best-tasting cakes and fillings from my homemade recipes.

I’m very proud of the work I deliver and love I put into every cake and cupcakes.

What were you like growing up?
My interests have always been reading, talk radio, and conversations that are stimulating. I grew up with a very close-knit small family and have always felt loved.

I was a happy kid and young adult, and my love language was and is affirmations.

The irony is that even though my mother is the best cook in the world- she doesn’t enjoy baking, and I skipped the cooking gene!
