Today we’d like to introduce you to Janell Villasenor.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
What inspired me to become an entrepreneur was my passion for creating a space where children could learn, grow, and truly enjoy the process of discovery. With my Montessori program, I wanted to build something more than just a school — a place that nurtures the whole child, while providing a community for parents, and ensuring safety while providing each student their own educational goals to achieve each child’s full potential. All the while letting them have fun and ignite their light of love for learning!
When I was developing this program, my main goal was to help form generations whose foundation is built on love and respect for others — to plant a small seed in their hearts that can make a big difference in their lives.
I wanted to make sure that I could support my families by offering extra activities all in one place — so they don’t have to rush to different locations or worry about being on time for multiple programs. By incorporating music, dance, cooking, yoga, reading, and Spanish into the daily routine, children can explore their interests, discover their talents, and grow in a well-rounded, enriching environment.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In a business with children and parents speed bumps along the roads are always welcomed to help us hear out their needs and/or concerns to further help enrich our program and make parents’ lives easier by providing them a well-rounded program in which their student(s) can benefit from caring and loving teachers and safe environment that offers education in both traditional and Montessori classes. While adding multiple “extra curricular activities” that most most parents would have to look for and run to take their student(s) after school such as cooking class, yoga, reading workshops, physical education, science lab workshop, and Spanish. All that we offer has been incorporated through those “challenges” along the way that have helped guide us to better our program along our way. A challenge we encountered during our initial week years ago was being able to show and log every child’s progress, potty breaks, food consumption, and send pictures of the activities. We since then, have a program that parents use on their phone to check in/out (for added safety), constant contact, and peace of mind seeing their child participate during activities and classroom time!
We’ve been impressed with Ali Colorate Montessori , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Life is so busy, and as parents, we are always on the go. That’s why it’s also very important for me to support our families by creating a loving and safe space — not only for our students but also for their parents. We want them to always know and feel that our priority is meeting their needs and being a source of support and care in their daily lives.
Giving each child the attention they need, acknowledging their personal accomplishments, and watching them discover their own unique talents — that’s truly the magic of this whole journey.
It is a big responsibility to know that in my hands lies the future of citizens who will impact our world. I hope that every educator out there transforming lives keeps this in mind, striving to make a meaningful impact in a child’s life. We should be seen not only as caregivers or educators but also as people who recognize each child’s light and help bring out the very best in them.
Seeing children’s confidence blossom, their joy in learning grow, and their unique talents shine is what continues to inspire me every single day.
We offer both part-time and full-time care and are part of the first 5 San Diego, the Navy MYCCN, and YMCA.
We are an at-home daycare that specializes in Spanish immersion traditional and Montessori education that offers multiple enriching experiences and activities.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I love about San Diego is that it is a grand epicenter of opportunity and it is this that gives us entrepreneurs the chance to ignite our passion and make our dreams come true. San Diego has a little bit of everything for everyone.
