Community Highlights: Meet Jasmine Cherry of The You Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Cherry.

Jasmine, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
The You Studio became an entity of its own in 2019; My story begins before that. In 2010 I was attending University and had a respiratory issue that lingered for over two months. It became difficult for me to even walk to class. After visiting multiple doctors, having scans, and several hospital visits, I decided taking a break from classes and that tending to my health was best for me. My mother went the natural route giving me teas, soups, and steam to open my respiratory system. This was a new experience for me. After being home for two weeks, the lingering cough just went away, I could breathe again, and simple activities like walking to class were no longer a hassle.

After this, I continued my studies, moved to San Diego, and looked for ways to help people naturally heal their bodies. Massage Therapy was one of the top results online, so I decided to tour a few schools. I Found ISPB College, and my sights were set here. Not only did they teach massage, but other students were practicing healthy ways of being, like being vegetarian, juicing, doing yoga, and meditation. This place felt like home to me! I loved how in-depth they were about anatomy and physiology while also educating students on energy.

I dove deep into my studies, and this led me on the path of opening The You Studio. It was important for me to have my own space so I can continue to learn as I went along and could be the massage therapist that tended to each client’s symptoms as opposed to working for a franchise that had a set way to do massage without creative freedom to tailor sessions.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been a journey while The You Studio afforded me the freedom to quit my 9-5 job. A year and 3 months after opening the pandemic hit. That made me question not only my worth but if I was on the right path. I knew that I was doing what I was destined for when clients kept returning and referring others after every shutdown which was quite often in my field.

Since reopening and building safety precautions that protect myself and my clients, I have seen steady growth. There’s always a learning curb with business and opportunity to grow into every role we play. I get to create a bigger vision while exploring marketing, building an employee handbook, and creating training as I prepare to hire my first employees.

We’ve been impressed with The You Studio, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The You Studio is a Self-Care, Wellness, and Massage therapy studio. We specialize in creating sessions that are specific to each client’s muscular needs. What I mean by this is in one session a client may need to relax, and we would do more of a Swedish style of massage, calming music, and utilizing soothing techniques. In another session, a client might have specific tension they want to focus int or an injury we need to be mindful of; in a session like this, we can use focused pressure, using techniques that are slower and deeper while still calming the body and releasing tension and not aggravating an injury.

The You Studio is most known for the knowledge we have of the musculoskeletal system (the muscles) and utilizing my intuition. I build sessions based off of what my clients are telling me they are experiencing in their bodies. Then I connect with their bodies through massage techniques allowing the tension to guide me to where relief is needed in the muscular system. My biggest compliment is the use of my intuition and anatomical knowledge, and that my clients feeling ‘heard.’

I am most proud that my intention to start this business and the feedback I’m getting from clients is in alignment. This shows through my reviews and how relieved my clients leave. My intention with opening The You Studio is to create freedom in each person’s body through muscular relief. This gets to look different with every client and I’m proud that my dedication to being a forever learner has allowed me to be open to different ways to create muscular freedom in each person’s body.

I want readers to know that The You Studio is safe space to create wellness, indulge in self-care, and receive massage therapy from intuitive and knowledgeable massage therapists. We offer ‘customized massage therapy sessions’ and have a wellness shop in our lobby.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
My favorite childhood memory is being on summer vacation and being encouraged to use my imagination to write stories for class. Me and a classmate even wrote a book about snakes together and read it to kindergarteners!
