Today we’d like to introduce you to Joe Chambliss.
Hi Joe, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I began my construction journey in my early teens as a ditch digger for a swimming pool company. During and after college, I worked for an environmental contractor on large-scale soil remediation projects. In 2008, I transitioned to commercial construction, managing and overseeing the installation of exterior cladding on high-rise buildings. Several years later, I joined a sports construction firm building public parks and private football stadiums. Along the way, I helped several family and friends remodel and build their dream homes—and became increasingly aware of the ethical gaps in the residential contracting market. That realization inspired me to found Joe’s Construction Company. Our mission: to apply the same rigor, transparency, and accountability typical of public works projects to every residential client’s experience.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
At this stage, our primary challenge is educating homeowners—particularly given how many undercapitalized, fly‑by‑night contractors enter the industry with a Just Enough To Start (JETS) mentality. They’ll bid low with minimal process or structure and use leveraged change orders to make a profit. Our approach is the opposite: we invest thoroughly in pre-construction—covering architectural and interior design, material selections, and scope definition—so that every homeowner feels fully informed, comfortable, and confident in both the process and the outcome
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Joe’s Construction Company has three core values:
1. Integrity: we always do the right thing—even when no one is watching. Our base bids include the full scope of work, and every job comes with a satisfaction guarantee, reinforcing our commitment to honesty and accountability
2. Transparency: we believe open pricing builds trust. That’s why we publish fixed rates for kitchen and bathroom remodels and offer range estimates for more complex projects like ADUs and custom homes. Our goal is to eliminate surprises before work begins
3. Communication: we leverage technology to standardize our workflows and deliver daily progress updates—complete with photos—so clients have a clear record of ongoing work. We confirm every material choice before procurement to ensure nothing is installed without the homeowner’s consent, creating a smooth and stress-free process
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I grew up in rural North County, San Diego. We lived in a safe community that allowed me and my siblings the opportunity to explore and discover the world. Summer days were spent riding bikes, catching crawdads and digging tunnels for GI Joes. As I got older, a lot more time was devoted to sports, mainly baseball, basketball or football, I also spent time taking things apart and putting them back together. My first vehicle was a 1971 Volkswagen Beetle that I rebuilt by myself at age 16 after discovering a cracked engine case. I have always been process-minded and resourceful.
