Today we’d like to introduce you to Kara Courtney
Hi Kara, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey into real estate began with a practical need since I knew I would want to buy a house one day. While in college at CSUSM, I had tested out of some classes needed for the course requirements and just needed to get credit to meet my graduation requirements so I could choose any class I wanted to just get the credits needed. During my research, I discovered that Palomar College had a real estate school, where I could take accredited classes that would qualify me towards the three classes needed to get my real estate license. I graduated and went on to work for Rubio’s in the corporate office, and while I was there I completed my real estate licensing requirements and passed my test. I sold my personal home a few years later and knew through that process that working in real estate was something I was fit for. I put in my notice while in escrow and launched my new real estate career.
Once I got into real estate, my efforts were focused on helping buyers secure great deals and enabling sellers to maximize their opportunities when selling their homes.
One of my key goals was to create a training program to help new agents develop the right mindset, skills, and experience to dive into real estate effectively. I also found myself assisting sellers in fixing up their homes in preparation for the market, ensuring they were in the best possible condition for sale.
In 2022, after helping numerous sellers enhance their homes before selling, I took a new step in my career. My husband and I began purchasing homes, renovating them, and bringing new life into them. This venture has not only been rewarding but has also allowed me to apply my skills and knowledge in a hands-on, impactful way.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road to where I am today has not always been smooth. Like any journey worth taking, it has been filled with its share of challenges and obstacles. One of the initial struggles was establishing credibility as a young real estate agent. I was 25 when I first got my license, and being younger in the industry made it a bit tricky to gain trust and recognition. However, I focused on offering value and sharing my strategy, and over time, things worked out well.
The COVID-19 pandemic presented another significant challenge. At first, it stalled the real estate market, creating uncertainty and slowing down transactions. However, as the situation evolved, low inventory and low interest rates fueled the market, leading to increased demand and competition. Navigating this rapidly changing market required adaptability and quick decision-making.
Despite these struggles, each challenge provided valuable lessons and opportunities for growth. The support from my coaching programs, continuous self-education, and the satisfaction of helping clients achieve their real estate goals have made the journey worthwhile. By staying committed to offering value and constantly improving my skills, I was able to overcome these obstacles to get to where I’m at today.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My real estate team name is the True North Associates because we focus on educating and guiding clients through the real estate process strategically, not just aiming for a sale. I don’t see myself as a salesperson but as a guide, which inspired our True North team name and tagline “Guiding You Home.” Unfortunately, we’ve all heard stories about agents who focus on commissions and visibility through billboards or buses, but fall short when it comes to actually serving the clients. Our emphasis is on quality and doing such a great job that our clients become our walking billboards and help spread the word to others in need of a great Realtor, too.
We specialize in residential real estate, helping buyers, sellers, and investors. We assist sellers in preparing their homes to maximize market value and provide buyers with move-in-ready properties.
I’m most proud that our brand is built on integrity, dedication, and personalized service. Whether you’re buying your first home, selling a property, or investing in real estate, our commitment is to guide our clients through the process with expertise and care.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
Working with us at True North Associates is designed to be straightforward and client-centered. We welcome anyone interested in buying, selling, or investing in real estate to reach out through our website or by phone to explore how we can assist with their real estate needs.
Supporting our business can be as simple as referring friends and family. As an investor and realtor, I’ve come up with the addage “You can think of me for everything Realty”. Sharing positive experiences and leaving reviews online are also incredibly helpful. Additionally, following Time on social media and engaging with my content is a great way to stay connected and support our mission.
If you come across a home that needs some love or know a seller looking for a quick cash offer, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We are always interested in opportunities to revitalize properties and assist sellers with efficient and beneficial transactions as their needs indicate.
We value the trust and support of our clients and partners, and we are dedicated to maintaining high standards of service and integrity in all our endeavors.
