Community Highlights: Meet Katy Schlegel of Mariposa Skies

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katy Schlegel

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
To tell you the story of how I started and how I got to where I am today- I have to take you on a bit of a journey.

For many years, I allowed my business to be in the background of my life. For a time, it was front and center, but then 2020 came, and it needed to be put on the back burner. Not for the reasons why most businesses did that year, though.

My mom was diagnosed with cancer and ultimately transitioned in September of 2020. And so I decided that year, that it was more important to take care of her rather than my business. It wasn’t without inner turmoil, though. It was a constant struggle.

Finally, that August, I decided to let go of Mariposa Skies and solely focus on taking care of my mom in what I would later come to realize were her last months physically here with us. And I’m so glad I did. I need to mention my mom and her transition because this was a major turning point in my life’s direction.

After her death, I didn’t know what to do, where to go, or how to continue. But what I did notice happening was that I became more aware of the other side and my mom’s presence there. So, I started asking, What happens beyond death? And that got me questioning a lot in my life- especially the direction I was going.

The truth was, my business felt dead for quite some time after my mom passed. I breathed a little new life into it last year with the launch of my podcast, The Anxious Adventurer, but I felt like I was floundering, not really knowing which direction to take.

Until recently, when I pivoted my business and started paving a new path.

In 2022, I took a crystal healer certification course. Crystals were what started healing my grief from the loss of my mom. When I felt their healing energies, I became curious and wanted to know more.

I was certified that year and started to work on some clients, but for the most part, I kept that side of me hidden. In all honesty – I felt like it was a little too woo woo and I was scared to share that part of myself in fear of being rejected.

However, just this April, I started to step into my role as a healer. Up until then, I’d been working and practicing with clients for the last year and a half via word of mouth, not really telling many people about it. But I can no longer deny helping people in this way because it brings me so much joy to help heal others.

So you see-I can’t mention this shift in my business and really my life without mentioning my mom because her passing, as utterly painful as it has been physically losing her, it has also been a gift in disguise because I would not be who I am today without it.

I’m currently in the process of leveling up and bringing all the different aspects of me, all the gifts that I’ve been given, together as a whole, so there’s no more separation.

This new vision I have for my business is more holistic in nature and includes the body, mind, AND spirit.

I’m opening up a new door and forging a new path, accepting that I am a teacher and a spiritual leader.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No one tells you that when you start a business of your own, it’s going to be one of your greatest teachers.

It’s a really difficult path where you have to forge your own way and not follow. It takes leadership, true grit, and living through lots of failures, getting back up, dusting yourself off, and trying again.

However, amidst all those ups and downs, you end up gathering pieces of yourself along the way and building something truly unique, and that’s all your own.

At least that’s my own journey with my business, Mariposa Skies.

I’ve learned that it takes a lot of trust, gut instincts, and courage to run a business. And right now, my business, Mariposa Skies, is teaching me to follow my intuition before it even makes sense.

I didn’t realize how my business’ namesake would be a clue to the transforming process it has led me on. Like the butterfly (mariposa in Spanish) goes on a journey of transforming from the caterpillar to its beautiful winged version, I’m currently in the midst of another transition and transformation where I’m learning a great lesson: to trust the timing.

We’ve been impressed with Mariposa Skies, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business today doesn’t look anything like it did when I first started. It has had many transitions and pivots along the way.

I started out with a woman’s online boutique that was inspired by my travels around the world. It then transitioned to creating a platform to celebrate and support independent artisans from Morocco, Argentina, Bali, and Japan.

And now it’s in a new phase, perhaps in one of its biggest transitions, transforming into something more holistic in nature- one that incorporates healing, reconnection, and experience.

Mariposa Skies is becoming a fusion of sorts. I am a healer and an intuitive, and I’m in the process of bringing all the different aspects of me and all the gifts that I’ve been given together.

My current focus is on crystal healing and teaching women why their energy matters.

Women are natural caretakers, often taking care of everyone else before ourselves. We do learn to take care of ourselves to a certain degree, such as caring for our bodies, but we never really learn about our energy body and how to take care of that.

What working with crystals has taught me is that it all begins with energy and that energy is very important. We often don’t realize this because we can’t see it, but we can feel it.

I offer women various ways to reconnect with their intuition and their energy.

Whether it be through booking a 1:1 crystal healing session, listening to one of my channeled meditations, learning to travel intuitively via my podcast, or shopping for jewelry that can help transform their lives, All of these things have one thing in common: they’re all about helping you reconnect with your mind, body, and spirit.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Right now, there’s a shift happening on this planet. Things are changing. I have no doubt that things will continue to shift and change in the next 5 to 10 years across every industry. More and more people are tapping into their souls plans.

I sense that in 5 to 10 years, humanity as a whole is going to be shifting and will be in an even greater transition than it is now. I’m not sure how it will all play out, but I do feel we’re just at the beginning.

That’s why it’s more important now than ever before to start reconnecting with your intuition, with nature, with each other, and with spirit.
