Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Lottes.
Hi Kim, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Five years ago, my three month old nephew passed away. I couldn’t understand how or why this would happen. Shamanism had been calling to me for years and it took the pain and grief I was feeling for me to finally answer the call. I found a local shaman and learned how to journey, meet my spirit guides, and had a soul retrieval to return lost parts of my soul. Then I went to Peru for a two week retreat in the Amazon jungle. I sat in eight ceremonies with a Shipibo shaman and my inner world was blown open.
I returned to the bay area (where I was living at the time). I was overworking, commuting two or more hours a day, and had little time to take care of myself. Within two weeks, I realized I couldn’t live like this anymore. I wasn’t really living my life but watching it pass me by. I gave notice at my job and apartment. After 15 years away, I returned home to San Diego. I took a year off work to heal myself. I traveled to Bali for a month with my sister and signed up for a Shamanic Practitioner Certification Program.
I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and decided to blend my background in psychology with the ancient wisdom of shamanism. My whole life has rearranged itself in the last five years. I am now offering work that I love, helping others tap into their own inner wisdom-listening for answers within rather than seeking outside themselves. I started my own Shamanic Practitioner Training Program, The Sacred Unfolding, and just graduated my second group of students.
When I left the bay, I knew I wanted my life to be simple, sustainable, and of service. I have created that for myself here in San Diego.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I would say the journey has been full of ups and downs. The shamanic path asks us to look at our shadow side, the aspects of ourselves that we might not like or perhaps are afraid to face, but that we need to own and integrate in order to find a sense of wholeness. It’s ultimately a heroine’s journey where gifts and lessons are learned through the hardships and we come out on the other side with a deep sense of trust in the beauty and magic of life.
One of the biggest challenges for me (being a former people-pleaser) has been following my own path, even if it isn’t conventional or mainstream. As I teach my clients and students, I continue to shed past beliefs, conditioning, and programming and listen to the voice of my soul. Often that voice is asking me to face fears and find the courage to keep expanding beyond my comfort zone.
A recent example would be knowing that it was time to start a podcast and share my voice as a way to become more visible. Some of my deepest wounding is around being seen so I had to work through the resistance that was coming up. As I continue to do my own work, my confidence grows and I show up in a real and genuine way (for myself and others).
We’ve been impressed with Kim Grace Healing, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Through Kim Grace Healing, it is my mission to create sacred space where people can tap into their inner world in order to identify and shed old beliefs that aren’t true so that they can shine their authentic light into the world.
I serve as a guide, teacher, and example for connecting to our own inner guidance system. We each have this within yet are often taught to seek answers outside of ourselves. In this work, we slow down and turn inward, allowing our own messages, healing, and intuition to come through. This knowing is more powerful and profound because it is our own.
Kim Grace Healing has two main offerings:
The Sacred Unfolding is a six month Shamanic Practitioner Training program that allows spiritually curious souls to learn how to heal themselves, remember their sacred gifts, and offer their unique medicine into the world.
The Journey Home is a three months individual healing container, using an integrative approach that removes layers of conditioning, brings awareness of shadow aspects, and allows clients to receive messages and guidance from beyond this physical reality. Through this process, clients find their way back to center, realizing they have everything they need inside.
The Energy Current Podcast is also now available for anyone wanting to learn more about shamanism. Shamanic journeys, guided visualizations, nervous system resets, and other experiential offerings are available through the podcast.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Once I started down the shamanic path, I answered the calls of Spirit, which means I am often asked to take risks. As a Taurus, I’m much more comfortable with stability so I am frequently being pushed beyond my comfort zone. However, that’s how we grow and evolve. I am learning to become more comfortable with risk-taking.
The biggest risk that I took was leaving my life in the bay area to move home to San Diego. I left a secure, well-paid job with good benefits, a home that I loved, and my community of friends to follow my inner guidance. I didn’t know what was next for me. It has been a beautiful unfolding beyond anything I could have imagined. Risks take us into the unknown, the void, the mystery and that can be a very uncomfortable place. It is also the place of possibilities where we can create something totally unexpected.
