Today we’d like to introduce you to Kolby Goodman.
Hi Kolby, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I fell into this work the same way a lot of people find their calling — by helping a friend. More than 15 years ago, someone asked me to look at their résumé before a big interview. I gave them a few suggestions, they landed the job, and suddenly their friends started reaching out. Before long, I realized I wasn’t just editing documents. I was helping people understand their value, tell their story, and step into roles that changed their lives.
That turned into The Job Huntr. Since then, I’ve coached thousands of professionals and new graduates, partnered with universities and companies, and built programs that help people move from “I hope they pick me” to “I know the problems I solve.”
Today my focus is on supporting soon-to-be and new college grads, helping them land meaningful, well-paying jobs before graduation. I also teach companies how to hire better, lead better, and keep their best people. It’s been a winding path, but the through-line has always been the same: I love helping people unlock opportunities they didn’t think were possible.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I wouldn’t call it a smooth road. Building a business around helping people navigate their careers means you’re constantly navigating your own at the same time. There were seasons where the work felt steady and predictable, and others where I questioned whether I should take a “regular” job again.
A big challenge was learning how to run a business while also doing the actual coaching. Early on, I said yes to everything. I overworked myself, underpriced my services, and assumed effort alone would keep the momentum going. It didn’t. I had to get better at systems, boundaries, and trusting my own process.
There were also moments where the market shifted: Covid, AI, companies slowed down their budgets, and my own confidence took a hit. Those periods forced me to rethink my offers, clarify who I helped, and rebuild my pipeline in a smarter way.
Looking back, the hard parts gave me the same perspective I now teach my clients: careers aren’t straight lines, and growth usually shows up disguised as discomfort. The struggles sharpened my coaching, strengthened my business, and made the wins mean more.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about The Job Huntr?
The Job Huntr is built around a simple idea: most people aren’t “job do-ers.” They’re problem-solvers who’ve never been shown how to market what they can actually do. I help them close that gap.
I’m best known for helping career professionals, those in transition, and new college grads just starting out understand their real value, tell their story with confidence, and walk into opportunities they didn’t think they could reach. Over the years I’ve coached over 3500 of people, partnered with universities, and trained teams at companies ranging from Apple and Meta to smaller nonprofits and schools. What sets my work apart is that everything is practical. No fluff. No generic advice. I break down the job search and the hiring process in a way that feels doable, repeatable, and tailored to the person or the organization.
Brand-wise, I’m proud that people consistently describe working with me as both grounding and empowering. Clients often say they walk away feeling clearer about who they are, what they bring to the table, and how to talk about it without feeling fake or forced. Parents tell me their college-age kids finally feel confident. Leaders tell me their teams communicate better and step up in ways they hadn’t seen before.
At the heart of it, my work helps people stop drifting through jobs and start building a career with intention. If readers take anything away, I want it to be this: you don’t have to guess your way into a fulfilling, well-paid role. With the right structure, guidance, and clarity, you can build a path that actually fits you while feeling proud of the impact you make along the way.
What’s next?
The next chapter of The Job Huntr is all about scaling impact. For years, most of my work has been one-to-one or with small groups. Now I’m focusing on serving far more students, families, and early-career professionals without losing the personal touch that makes the coaching work.
I’m building out a full coaching program for soon-to-be college grads, along with workshops for universities and parent organizations. The goal is to make the transition from college to career less confusing and far more intentional for everyone involved.
On a personal note, I’m looking forward to growing the speaking side of my business. I love being in rooms with professionals, leaders, and teams who are ready to level up, and I’m planning to take on more conferences and campus events over the next few years.
The through-line is simple: I want to reach more people earlier in their careers, give them the tools I wish I had at that age, and help them step into work that actually feels good and pays well. The impact of that work doesn’t stop with one job—it shapes confidence, opportunity, and future earning power for years to come.
