Community Highlights: Meet Mariah Guerrero of Mariah The Label

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mariah Guerrero.

Hi Mariah, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I first started my business as Modern Queen Boutique in June of 2020 during the pandemic. I was not working at the time due to the lockdown so I had a lot of free time and I felt like I needed to do something and it was the perfect time to start a business and focus. I always enjoyed shopping, fashion, I would do a lot of DIYs in high school and use to sketch clothing when I was younger. So the idea of starting an online clothing brand came to my mind. I began to do a lot of research on how to start an online boutique and watched tons of Youtube videos and basically learned everything from there and did it all on my own from building the website, logo, marketing, content, shipping, etc. I started off with very little inventory of about 6 different pieces and began selling mostly to my close friends and family. As time went on, I started sending packages to influencers, doing giveaways, being more consistent with content and more followers began to follow my page. In February of 2021, I rebranded and now go by Mariah The Label. I also try to attend pop ups locally in San Diego and travel to Los Angeles at least once a month to get my name out and meet new potential customers. As of right now I am still learning new things everyday and growing. I am forever grateful for my customers and new friendships I have made while starting my business I have met so many amazing like-minded women also managing a business and that’s what I love about this. I get to do something I love and I hope one day my business will pop off and be able to quit my 9-5 and do this full time.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road at all, it definitely has its ups and downs. It does take big mental toll, there are days when I doubt myself and my business. There are months where there are no sales, or months that are fairly good so at times I do feel like giving up but I just try to remind myself that my hard work will pay off one day and it takes courage to start a business at a young age and that I’m doing my very best. I’ve made a lot of mistakes throughout the way that I wish I would have known when I first started but I’ve learn from them. It’s also very stressful when running a business all alone, I feel like a lot of customers do not realize how much time and effort is put In when it’s just one person doing everything to taking pictures, replying to emails, packaging, shipping, content, inventory, etc. on top of working full time and some college classes here and there so at times, it does become overwhelming.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
