Today we’d like to introduce you to Mariel Korkis.
Hi Mariel, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I began photography in Summer of 2024 as a hobby for myself until I realized, I can do more. I can capture special moments and keep them forever, not just for myself but for the people around me. Photography quickly became a passion to me and now I use it to express myself and those around me who need a photographer or a memory brought to life eternally.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Although photography seems easy, there is truly so many things to learn. Words you have never even heard of before are something so important to your camera and how your images turn out, and it is truly fascinating how crazy the difference is with or without these mystery word-features. It took months to learn the ropes of how to take a steady looking photo, and to this day there are still things I discover about my camera that I had no idea about prior to my photoshoot. Photography has always been a learning experience, so although the road was bumpy it was still very enjoyable.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What makes my business unique is that I offer a fresh, creative perspective as a 17-year-old graduate who’s passionate about photography and (learning) videography. I bring a ton of patience, energy, and a personal touch to every shoot, and I’m always happy to give advice and help you feel confident in front of the camera. I’m also extremely affordable and flexible—I can drive anywhere to meet your needs, from San Diego up to Oceanside. Whether you’re looking for high-quality photos, clean edits, or even a video to capture a special moment, I’ve got you covered without breaking the bank. I am known for how affordable yet beautiful my images are- by being able to capture your senior pictures, family events, holidays, birthdays plus so much more and still being able to make sure you don’t cringe by looking at the price total is my specialty. I would like the readers to know that they can reach out for images! My Instagram is @mariielphotography and my Yelp is mariel photography. I offer extremely low prices for services (typically under $150). I would also like them to know that if they are interested in photography, they can do it! Start researching and saving up because it is definitely not a cheap business to start. I offer hundreds of services, I can be at any event for any amount of time and still ask for the absolute bare minimum price. Need professional headshots, family portraits, sport photos, family event, personal accomplishment and any other kind of photos? I am always available for my San Diego locals!
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I hope to major in Photography in hopes of becoming a professional photographer. I hope to keep my rates in order to keep my clients smiles as wide as they were in the photoshoot! I hope to partake in as many trends as possible as well as hopefully build myself a bigger clientle. Within 5 years I would like to hopefully open up a website for people to online book easily. I would also hope to create photography classes for aspiring photographers. Moreover, I would absolutely love to fully learn the ropes of videography so I may record everyone’s special moment and to be able to edit my images even better than I already do!
