Community Highlights: Meet Melanie Bisher of Cosmic Cupboard

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melanie Bisher.

Melanie Bisher

Hi Melanie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I woke up one day and realized I didn’t recognize myself. That is really the start of my new story, but first the backstory. I was a young mother of 17, had a beautiful baby girl, and at 21 had a cute as a button baby boy. I did everything backwards. Kids, beauty school, marriage in that order. I loved being a mother and wife. I tried so hard to be the perfect mom, the perfect wife, the perfect everything, the perfect football cheer dug-out lady. I always worked as well, part out of necessity, part of fear. Fear of being alone and having to take care of kids by myself. That goes back from childhood; I wanted to protect myself just in case. I could sit here and say it was about my ex-husband, and he is this and that, but the truth is it was both of us. We were young and didn’t know any better and were just trying to make it work. ‘I see now that we can only perceive each other as much as we have met ourselves”. Not sure who said that, but it has stuck with me. I thank him for the lessons he has taught me along my path, and I hope he does me as well. No matter how hard some of those lessons maybe it has brought me to the place I am today. If I did anything different, or things didn’t happen to me. I wouldn’t have had all these amazing experiences of life, the good and the bad. I regret nothing in the most healing way possible. Have I done terrible things, yes. Are there things that I wish I could take back, yes. I can’t, and so those are tough lessons to learn. If anything was changed it may not lead me here, and I truly believe that. I thank everything and everyone that has brought me to today. Including you 😊

A few years before the end of my marriage, I was having a really hard time. I started going to counseling and doing yoga. I can’t tell in words how much yoga helped me. Not that therapy didn’t, but it was expensive, and I went once a week. I needed a lot more than that. Yoga, all I needed was a Wi-Fi connection (these days) a mat, and a minute to myself. Yoga is where it started, but expanded into spirituality, meditation also, tarot cards, energy work, BREATHWORK, meditation, and the study of religions all over the world.

One of the hardest lessons I have ever had to learn is that giving your energy can be just as toxic as not giving enough. I had to look in that mirror and really dig deep and own my mistakes and the roles I played in all aspects of life. I had to face my own reflection. I know of course, sometimes things happen. It is how we respond to those events that really matter. If it was my abandonment issues, low self-esteem, projecting my unresolved issues from my past on other people, Myself negative talk, my anger that I stuffed down for years from childhood…I couldn’t take it anymore. Stuffing down emotions will come back one way or the other. It is just a matter of time for those unhealed issues to boil to the surface. I would like to help people in a little bit of a different way, so it doesn’t have to come out like a freight train. Tools you can use every day, in the moment when you need a minute for yourself to make a little space mentally or physically.

During my journey of healing, I am inspired to help other people. I have learned much and with my previous work experience, I am to blend my passions for business, marketing, beauty, spirituality, and charity. I would like to sell items from all over the world of different religious backgrounds. I have a wide range of items. One being hopefully one day to carry bath tea, with different herbs and fragments for aromatherapy and bath salts. Books, cards, utube video resources, meditation items, healthy eating books, yoga mats, relaxation tools. Subscription healing boxes are also on the list (self-esteem, abundance, confidence, etc.) I would also like to provide resources with the items so people can learn the origin behind the culture of different items worldwide. Eventually, I would Like to have a brick-and-mortar store offering services as well. During these hard times especially with everything going on around the world with the pandemic. I would like try and bring us together more than apart. The energy on our planet is so intense right now. If I can help even one person find some sort of peace, it is worth it. There are so many natural ways of healing; I want to share that information in one place and build a community where we can share information about self-healing, exercise, and events. At the end of the day, I just want to make life a little easier.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not, but I am learning to enjoy every bump and hiccup. I feel like this may be a loaded question: which area of life are we talking here. Jokes aside, I think I have chosen the hard road as the first road all the time until a few years ago. Long story short, in life I would say I have struggled with self-worth, confidence in my knowledge and opinions. Also, speaking up for myself.

In business, I have struggled with lack of education and having to teach myself, as well as above. Thankful these days we have so much information at our fingertips, and I am very resourceful. I went to beauty school, but I have built my current (Bill Pay) career in construction administration. I had to learn everything from scratch and being a female in a male-dominated industry can be tough. Now starting my own businesses to blend my experience of beauty and health with my office and marketing experience has been an interesting task. It funny though, how when it is meant to be everything just starts fitting together.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As of right now, we are a newer company. We are actually celebrating our first year open on 11.22.23. Cosmic Cupboard offers at the moment books on mediation and breathwork, tarot cards, oracle cards for self-reflection. Crystals, aromatherapy candles, and organic incense. All of our product are high quality, and a lot of them are all-natural or vegan. We just recently started adding some cork yoga mats and straps as supplies last. I hope to add services this coming year and additional resources on my website, such as local events, breathwork, yoga and meditation classed, tarot reading, and a ton more products.

One thing about Cosmic Cupboard is that one of our company goals is to start donating money to a Stop Sex Trafficking Organization within the first few years of profitable operation. I am still in the beginning stages of researching the different organizations and getting the business off the ground, but I have so many ideas I am busting at the seems to see what the next year old for us.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
OMG, I love this question! So many things… my breathe, my kids, the sunshine, the moonlight and stars, most of my family and friends, my pets I have had, a beautiful mountain top, a sunset, or my toes in the sand on a beach. Taking off on an airplane. A good book, documentary, or conversation, a big hug, or a kiss on the forehead.

Why? Because those are the first things I thought when I thought of happy.
