Community Highlights: Meet Michele Arrowsmith-Gordon of Arrowsmith Events LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michele Arrowsmith-Gordon.

Hi Michele, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I entered the restaurant industry at just fifteen years old, an early start that sparked a lifelong career in hospitality and service. Drawn equally to structure and creativity, I later majored in **theater**, an experience that shaped how I view events as immersive experiences—where timing, flow, and storytelling matter just as much as aesthetics.

After college, I was hired as a **banquet manager**, and it was in that role that my love for planning and coordinating events truly began. Working behind the scenes, I learned how complex events come together seamlessly through thoughtful logistics, strong leadership, and attention to detail. That foundation became the cornerstone of my career.

Over the next 25+ years, I built my expertise through catering sales and event management roles at respected Orange County and San Diego venues and hospitality organizations including Green River Golf Club, Festivities Catering, Picnic People, Brothers Signature Catering & Events, the UC San Diego Faculty Club, The Bristol Hotel, and the San Diego Marriott Mission Valley. Throughout these positions, I planned and executed weddings and events of all sizes, developing a reputation for calm leadership, meticulous planning, and reliable execution.

Like many in the hospitality industry, my career was impacted during the COVID-19 pandemic when I was laid off from the hotel I was working for at the time. Rather than stepping away from the industry, I saw it as an opportunity to finally build something of my own. During that period, I launched my wedding and event coordination business—supporting couples through an uncertain time while drawing on decades of experience and adaptability.

I am a member of the **Association of Bridal Consultants** and hold my **Professional Wedding Planner (PWP)** certification, reflecting my commitment to professionalism and continued education. What began as a pivot during a challenging season has grown into a business rooted in thoughtful planning, strong communication, and genuine care for every client.

Today, I live in Encinitas with my partner and daughter. When I’m not planning weddings and events, we love spending time at the beach, traveling, and enjoying the performing arts—experiences that continually inspire my creative approach and connection to the San Diego community.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a completely smooth road, and I don’t think meaningful careers ever are. Hospitality is a demanding industry, and building longevity requires adaptability, humility, and a willingness to learn through challenges. Early on, I balanced long hours, high expectations, and the pressure that comes with managing large-scale events where there is little room for error. Those experiences, while demanding, helped shape my work ethic and leadership style.

One of the most significant challenges came during the COVID-19 pandemic, when I was laid off from the hotel I was working for—a moment that brought both uncertainty and reflection. Like many in hospitality, I had to quickly reassess my path. Starting my own business during that time came with its own set of obstacles: navigating an unpredictable market, supporting couples through constant changes, and building something new without the traditional safety net of a corporate role.

There have also been the quieter challenges that come with entrepreneurship—learning when to trust your instincts, advocating for your value, and finding balance while growing a business and caring for a family. Each challenge, however, has reinforced the importance of resilience, preparation, and staying grounded in why I do this work.

Looking back, those moments of uncertainty were also moments of growth. They pushed me to refine my approach, trust my experience, and build a business that reflects both my values and the level of service I believe clients deserve.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Arrowsmith Events LLC?
My business is a boutique wedding and event coordination company rooted in thoughtful planning, strong logistics, and calm leadership. I specialize in guiding couples through the planning process with clarity and confidence, ensuring that every detail is handled seamlessly so they can be fully present and enjoy their celebration. At the heart of my brand is my philosophy and tagline: **“Making your very special day a memorable family celebration.”** Every wedding I coordinate is approached with that intention—honoring not just the couple, but the families and loved ones coming together.

What truly sets my business apart is the depth of experience behind it. With more than 25 years in hospitality, catering sales, and event management, I bring a strong operational foundation to every event. I understand how events function from the inside out—working closely with venues, vendors, and teams to anticipate challenges before they arise and resolve them quietly and efficiently. My clients value not only creativity, but reliability, preparedness, and the peace of mind that comes from working with someone who has truly done it all.

I am known for being composed, detail-driven, and highly organized, particularly in high-pressure environments. My approach blends logistics with storytelling—shaped by my background in theater—so events flow naturally and feel intentional rather than overly produced. Whether coordinating a wedding day or managing a complex timeline, I focus on creating experiences that feel effortless to guests and deeply meaningful for the families involved.

Brand-wise, I am most proud of the trust I build with my clients. My business has grown through relationships, referrals, and reputation rather than volume or trends. I intentionally take on a limited number of events so I can provide hands-on attention and a truly customized experience. Clients often share that my presence allows them to relax and enjoy the day, knowing everything is being handled with care and professionalism.

What I want readers to know is that my brand is centered on intention, professionalism, and heart. This is not about one-size-fits-all packages—it’s about listening closely, planning thoughtfully, and executing beautifully—so every celebration feels personal, seamless, and truly memorable for the entire family.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The quality that has been most important to my success is **calm, steady leadership**. Weddings and events are emotionally charged, fast-moving, and often unpredictable, and my role is to be the person who remains grounded no matter what is happening behind the scenes. Clients don’t just need someone who knows the details—they need someone they can trust to lead with confidence, clarity, and composure.

Over the years, I’ve learned that preparation and experience allow you to stay calm under pressure. When challenges arise, I focus on solutions rather than stress, ensuring that couples and their families feel supported and reassured throughout the process. That sense of calm creates space for joy, connection, and presence, which is ultimately what these celebrations are about.

This approach has shaped my reputation and my brand. Being steady, thoughtful, and reliable allows my clients to fully enjoy their very special day, knowing it’s being handled with care. For me, success isn’t just about flawless execution—it’s about creating an environment where families can relax, celebrate, and make meaningful memories together.
