Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Lynch.
Hi Michelle, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My career started off getting scouted as a model because I was tall, small and had a passion for fashion while attending college at Arizona State University. Shortly after that I started working as a professional model working for major designers such as Donna Karan, Michael Kors, Calvin Klein and Oscar de la Renta. Working with these professionals, I learned a lot on how the industry worked. I then became a spokesmodel for a company called Esprit Clothing in San Francisco, California which lead me to working as a host, a fit model, an ambassador for the company and from there I traveled the world working in major cities – New York, Chicago and Atlanta. As I got older, I started to pay more attention about what goes on behind the scenes, like hair, make-up, styling and production and one of the main stores I modeled for was Macy’s. So one day they called me during Fall Fashion Week and said we need you to do a show for us, because we are all booked up, of which I replied NO I CANT! I had never done a show before, I was IN shows but I had never produced one. So they said YES you will do this show and we’ll tell you everything you need to know. As it turned out, they were extremely busy and had very little time to give me direction so I went solely on what I knew from being in the mix for 15+ years at that point. Just so happens the people that I was doing a show for came from New York and was one of the top tv shows on air at the time. Im a very detailed person by nature anyway and to make a long story short I did a great job for them when they came to Atlanta, they then offered me a job to travel around the country dressing women which was called Makeover America sponsored by Macy’s. I traveled around the world for 10+ years doing that and working with high profile celebrities, models & real people. It’s been amazing. I’ve been producing fashion events ever since.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Smooth Road! Absolutely, positively NOT! So many struggles along the way….. Let me count the ways!
The main struggle was and still is – people think you have a fun job which equates to not wanting to pay for professional services.
Most of the world wants to be in fashion or entertainment so to stand out is close to impossible but since social media has been into play, it’s like each person has their own platform now so there’s a little more opportunity to be seen but you still have to stand out in your own way.
You simply always have to get people’s attention and make them see your vision, you’re always encouraging people to believe in you. You really have to be a self motivated, disciplined, energized, detail-oriented person and that is easier said than done.
We’ve been impressed with Poshe Productions, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
One of the things that I love most about my job as a stylist, producer and agency owner is that it allows me to be as creative as I want to be. I love that I can wake up in the morning and have an idea and 6 months later I have a hundred people working on what I created. That’s cool to me BUT I always say you’re only as good as your team and I have an awesome team that’s equally creative and passionate.
What has worked for me is, I’m a one stop shop so I can do 6 things if you hire me which means they dont have to hire 6 different people they can just hire my company and we specialize in: *Creative Direction *Hair & Make-up *Choreography * Styling *Professional Models *and *Full Production which includes lights, stage and sound.
Im really proud of the fact that my brand gives models and designers a platform to shine and show the world who they are.
We also host classes and bootcamps that help aspiring new talent learn about the industry and get started with their careers.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I define success by a few things…. by loving what you do and getting paid for it, having a position that makes you happy and allows you to be creative and artistic at the same time and to make enough money to travel and see how other cultures live because the best education is in traveling the world.
