Today we’d like to introduce you to Pablo Perez.
Hi Pablo, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
My name is Pablo, I was born and raised in Chula Vista, which I personally believe offers the most beautiful view in San Diego. As a kid, I had a passion for three things: drawing, gaming, and making music. I was lucky enough to be raised by two incredibly creative Mexican parents – my mom is a gifted hairstylist, and my dad is a talented musician and composer who used to perform with his band in various venues throughout Mexico. They always instilled in me the importance of pursuing a career that I was passionate about.
It wasn’t until I saw my first 3D Pixar movie, Toy Story, that I discovered my true calling – 3D animation. From that moment on, I knew that I wanted to work for Pixar or even start my own animation studio that could compete with the best in the business. To achieve that goal, I enrolled in several schools to study 3D animation and graphic design. My aim was to acquire the necessary skills to one day create my own original animated film. After attending several private and community colleges, I finally achieved my goal and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Media Arts from Platt College.
Having grown up with four trendy sisters, fashion has always played a significant role in my life. Their influence has led me to view fashion in a unique way, constantly seeking to incorporate new and refreshing elements into my personal style. Rather than work in the gaming or movie industry creating art for other studios, I decided to merge my love for original art with fashion and bring my creations to life.
For the last five years, I have been working at a multimedia marketing agency in downtown San Diego where I designed logos, products, pamphlets, signage, social media ads, and a lot more. However, my ultimate dream was to establish a studio that would combine all forms of media to create compelling short stories. In 2017, my long-time friend Javier and I developed the concept of Rezzlo based on a vision we shared. At the core of every piece we release, we incorporate storytelling and 3D visuals to ensure that each release communicates a distinct message, connects with a personal passion, or evokes specific emotions and memories in our community.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Although my family was hardworking and supportive of my dreams, I had to start working at a young age to buy the equipment necessary to build my own PC and begin designing. Pursuing a career in this field was always challenging because I had no personal connections to those who worked in it. Nonetheless, the incredible art, games, and movies that I admired and aspired to create kept me motivated. The most challenging time in my academic life was when I had to balance full-time work and school while building my personal brand. This left me with little time for socializing, but I knew that dedicating myself to my business would be worthwhile since it gave me complete control over my own scheduling and design process.
When I designed the first Rezzlo shirts, we had to rely on a local screen printer that had limitations on where we could print on the shirt. To overcome this, I decided to purchase a 4-color screen printer and all the necessary equipment to start our own screen-printing studio. We were able to fit everything into my small garage, and everything that is Rezzlo-branded is created in my home studio, including the 3D animations, posters, and t-shirts. Our goal is to one day have a large warehouse to house better equipment and future employees.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Rezzlo?
Rezzlo is a clothing brand that emphasizes storytelling and providing unique experiences with each release. Through hours of practice, I have honed my skills in using the Adobe and Autodesk suites to create original designs and animations. Unlike other brands that rely on mass production, we take a hands-on approach to our production process. All of our designs are created in-house and screenprinted by hand, ensuring that each piece is made with care and attention to detail. At the moment we are currently working on producing part 2 of our first campaign which released in December of 2022. You can stay up to date with all of our announcements by following us on @rezzlostudio and checking for upcoming releases on rezzlo.com
What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of my favorite childhood memories is when my sisters and I would make our own versions of movies and TV shows that we recorded on my parents’ VHS camcorder. Looking back, I realize that sometimes I accidentally recorded over important family events with our comedic spinoffs and sequels. I vividly remember one occasion when I recorded over half of my 6th-grade graduation with our version of the Terminator. It was during these moments that I discovered my passion for storytelling and my desire to be a part of the filmmaking world.
