Community Highlights: Meet Pamela And Hector Magnus of Architects Magnus

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pamela And Hector Magnus.

Pamela and Hector, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
The beginning of Architects Magnus wasn’t exactly planned—it unfolded naturally. We happened upon a vacant lot for sale and jumped into designing and building our home. With a modest budget, we sketched ideas on napkins and drink coasters, driven by the feeling that we could create something meaningful—something centered on what mattered most to us, especially our love of natural light.

Somewhere along the way—midway through construction—we found out we were expecting our first child. That shifted everything. We began thinking more intentionally about the life we wanted to build, both personally and professionally. We realized we worked well together, so we designed an office into the house and launched our firm, Architects Magnus.

That journey continues to shape how we approach our work. We know how personal the process can be, so when clients share their stories, we’re excited to help bring them to life.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like most creative paths, it’s had its bumps. Working and living under one roof takes intention and patience. We may both be architects, but we see things differently. Sometimes, before a meeting, we’ll decide who should speak first—just to make space for each other’s perspective. Learning to listen and find common ground has been key. A sense of humor helps, too.

The upside? Our differences push the work further. When we collaborate—especially with our clients—we land on ideas we wouldn’t have reached alone. Living together, working together, and raising a family together is a lot, but at the end of the day, we trust each other. That trust keeps us grounded through the tough spots.

As you know, we’re big fans of Architects Magnus. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Architecture is a vast field, but our decision to specialize in custom residential design is a deeply personal one. We get to design not just how a home looks, but how it feels to live in. While our background is rooted in artistic expression, much of our work comes down to problem-solving. We challenge each other to find smart solutions—balancing code, budget, and practical needs—while holding onto the creative spark that gives a home its soul.

What sets our work apart isn’t a signature style—it’s how we listen. Every project is a collaboration, and we see our role as helping clients get to the heart of what they truly want from their space. That might mean designing around busy family routines, future-proofing for aging parents, or creating a home that simply brings a sense of peace.

What we’re most proud of is the trust our clients place in us. When someone moves in and shares how their home brings them joy, that’s the kind of feedback that means the most.

What’s next?
We’re curious about how design can shape everyday life in more thoughtful ways. Our conversations often circle around sustainability, innovation, and livability. Lately, we’ve been exploring the idea of living buildings—spaces that learn from their occupants and adapt over time.

For us, big change doesn’t necessarily mean bigger projects—it means deeper impact. We’re excited for what’s ahead and always open to collaborating with others who share that same curious spirit.
