Hi Richard, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
From an early age, I developed a deep passion for the hospitality industry. At just 21, I began my career in bartending, working at several well-known establishments and hotels throughout San Diego, where I learned the art of great service and event execution.
After mastering my craft behind the bar, I went on to establish First String Bartending Services, which quickly became one of the top bartending companies in San Diego. For over 15 years, my team and I have provided professional bar service for weddings, corporate events, and celebrations across the county—always focused on quality, presentation, and creating unforgettable experiences.
Building on that success, I decided to take the next step and open a venue of my own. Within just a few months, I launched Skylight Venue, now one of San Diego County’s top event spaces. The venue combines modern, rustic, and elegant charm and features a bridal suite, spacious reception area, and inviting cocktail space—all in a beautiful neighborhood.
Opening Skylight Venue took a lot of hard work, planning, and dedication, but seeing people celebrate life’s special moments here makes it all worth it. That’s what I love most—creating spaces where lasting memories are made.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the main obstacles I faced while opening Skylight Venue was the construction process. Even though I had a clear vision for how I wanted the space to look—modern, rustic, and elegant—turning that vision into reality took patience and persistence.
From choosing the right colors and finishes to coordinating plumbing, electrical work, and flooring, every stage required careful planning and follow-up. Like most construction projects, things often took longer than expected. Learning to stay patient and focused during those delays was one of the biggest challenges.
In the end, though, the process taught me the importance of timing, attention to detail, and trusting the journey. Once everything came together, the final result was exactly what I had envisioned—and it made all the challenges worth it.
