Today we’d like to introduce you to Rob Green
Hi Rob, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started my career over 20 years ago at Sam’s Club, pushing carts and working my way up to Operations Manager while earning my MBA. I built a career in operations management across a variety of industries—retail, IT, veterinary health, human healthcare, and consumer products—taking on roles from Ops Manager to COO. Along the way, I became known for solving complex problems, implementing scalable systems, and turning around underperforming companies. I thrive on hitting challengibg goals, setting high expectations, and making sure nothing falls through the cracks. Even when faced with challenges like sales downturns, economic issues, or system delays, I stay focused on results, pushing for continuous improvement and operational excellence.
I bought Beach City Smoothies as a passion project, I had always known it to be an awesome local smoothie shop in Carlsbad Village that’s been part of the community for nearly two decades. Taking that step toward the unknown has been nothing but a blessing for my family and I. While I’m still fully immersed in the corporate world, I have to say Beach City is a breath if fresh air for me, and just plain fun. At Beach City, it’s all about good vibes, great food, and creating a space where people can hang out, connect, and enjoy some amazing smoothies and acai bowls. My goal is to grow Beach City to five locations in San Diego County, and hopefully, exit the daily corporate grind. For now, I’m balancing both worlds, but I’m excited about the journey ahead!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Overall, it’s been a pretty smooth road, thanks to my background in retail and operations. I’ve been exposed to a lot of what we do here at Beach City Smoothies in past roles, so stepping in and running the business felt natural. Since it was already an established spot in Carlsbad Village, I’ve only had to make minor tweaks—introducing automation, remodeling the location, and focusing more on marketing. I also feel really lucky, having a great team in place—my Manager Reyna and supervisors Jami and Ellie— they are rockstars who keep things running smoothly and bring great energy to the business.
That said, I’ve learned a lot and made plenty of mistakes throughout my career, but that’s exactly how I’ve grown and can make quick decisions when needed. Every challenge has taught me something new, and those lessons help me navigate the normal headaches that come with ownership. The real challenge (and the fun part) is growing the business, but that’s something I’ve done throughout my career, and it’s what drives me. We’ve got big plans ahead, with a new location opening in Oceanside, CA, in June 2025, and I’m excited to keep building from here!
We’ve been impressed with Beach City Smoothies, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

We love seeing familiar faces, welcoming new ones, and making every visit an experience, not just a stop for a smoothie. With a new location coming this summer, we’re excited to grow while staying true to what makes Beach City Smoothies special: a relaxed atmosphere, amazing flavors, and a place where everyone feels at home.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
The Covid-19 crisis taught us a lot about the importance of community and resilience. At Beach City Smoothies, we managed the challenges well thanks to the unwavering support of our loyal customers, who continued to visit and order from us during tough times. We were also fortunate to have the City of Carlsbad, Carlbad Village Association, and the Carlsbad Police Department backing us—they were incredibly supportive and helped keep our business open, even when it was hard for many others. Their commitment to helping local businesses navigate the crisis made all the difference, and we’ll always be grateful for their efforts. The experience reinforced how essential it is to stay connected with the people and organizations around us and to adapt quickly when faced with adversity.
