Community Highlights: Meet Ryan Stickel of Rts Private Chef

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Stickel

Hi Ryan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am a San Diego native, I grew up in coronado and have lived all across San Diego. I have been cooking my whole life but professionally for 16+ years. I was working in kitchens up until the beginning of this year. I worked at many San diego restaurants over this time, including Mister A’s, Ironside, Morning Glory, Farmer and the seahorse, Books and Records etc.. so at the beginning of the year I decided branch out and start my own Private chef and meal prep company. I just love cooking food and trying out new flavors and recipes.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have to say that I really enjoy working for myself and pursuing my dreams of creating good food and experiences. It definitely has had its ups and downs so far like the cost of all the liscenses and fees for the federal and state filings. I was a chef for alot of years and really only focused on the food and the restaurant and never had to deal with the back end tax info but that has changed strongly since I have started my own business.

As you know, we’re big fans of Rts Private Chef . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
The business mainly as a Private chef for hire business. So i’ll come to your house or business depending on if they have a kitchen and I will cook a meal for them. Whether that be to cook for an event for 15-25 people or just a more intimate setting and have 1 family that wants meals for the week and wants to see the process of cooking. I try to only use fresh products and produce, I dont like using ingredients that are packed with 50 different ingredients on the list. The business also provides a meal prep service for people looking to get restaurant quality food in the comfort of their home.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Luck is not something i really believe in. Plently of good and bad things happen in life, just trying to stay positive, focused and happy is really what I see as luck
