Community Highlights: Meet Shayna Wilson of Simply Sign Mobile Notary

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shayna Wilson.

Hi Shayna, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve always loved connecting with people and supporting them through important moments in life. My background is in Early Intervention, helping babies and toddlers (0–3 years old) with developmental delays access the services they need. I’ve been on the ground, sitting eye-level with little ones in their homes, coaching parents and carrying out developmental goals and I’ve also worked on the administrative side. Throughout it all, I’ve had an eye for detail and a strong sense of organization, which naturally led me to explore becoming a notary after needing one myself.

I became a commissioned notary in 2023 and completed my first few General Notary Work signings that year. After taking a pause when I had my second baby, I decided to go all in and grow a mobile notary business with the vision of making it my full-time career. It felt like the perfect fit: I still get to serve my community, become a trusted resource, and guide people through meaningful life milestones, all while making something necessary, like notarizations, simple and stress free.

With my kids at the precious ages of 4 and 1, I also want to be as present as possible in their lives. Owning my own business gives me the flexibility to do both: to pursue fulfilling work while being the involved parent I’ve always dreamed of being. It truly feels like the best of both worlds. While I’m still building, I believe wholeheartedly that I can and will make this vision a reality.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Right now, the biggest hurdle I’ve faced is juggling building a business, being a present mom and wife, and working my 9–5. I want to give my best to all of those roles, and figuring out how to balance them hasn’t always been easy.

I’ve also never owned a business before or had to market myself in previous jobs. It’s been both fun and challenging to learn as I go: figuring out what works, what doesn’t, and how to network effectively. Marketing and self promotion don’t come naturally to me. I’m an introvert through and through, and walking into a room full of business owners making small talk has been a big learning curve. But I’m someone who embraces (and enjoys!) change. I’m willing to take risks, try new things, and keep learning.

What gives me confidence is the feedback I’ve received from clients: once people get to know me, my work ethic, my attention to detail, and my focus on customer service, they often want to work with me again. That’s what I lean on as I continue to grow: building lasting relationships through the quality of my work and the trust I earn.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Simply Sign Mobile Notary is a mobile notary business serving North County San Diego. I bring notarization to my clients wherever they need me: at home, in a rehab facility or hospital, a senior living community, an office, an attorney’s practice, or even a local coffee shop. My goal, beyond notarizing documents correctly, is to make the process as easy and stress free as possible. I truly enjoy serving my community, whether it’s individuals, families, small businesses, or attorneys.

While I handle a wide range of General Notary Work, my bread and butter is estate plan notarizations. I completed additional training to become a Certified Notary Trust Delivery Agent (CNTDA), which means I’m well versed in estate planning documents and can guide clients through the signing process with accuracy, efficiency, and clarity. I also offer flexible scheduling including early mornings, evenings, and weekends, so clients don’t have to rearrange their lives to get documents notarized.

I aim for my approach to be warm, personable, and transparent. I take time to explain the notarization process so clients know exactly what to expect, what’s needed, what I can and cannot do as a notary, and when I legally must refer questions back to their attorney or the document’s source. I want every client to feel comfortable and confident during the appointment, and I make sure no one walks away with surprises.

I’m proud of the professional yet approachable brand I’ve built grounded in trust, accountability, and consistency. Building this business while also being a mom and working full time makes it even more meaningful. My kids get to grow up seeing what I’ve built, and I hope it inspires them to chase whatever it is they want in life.

At the heart of Simply Sign is a commitment to trust, accuracy, and care. Notarizations don’t have to be complicated or inconvenient, you don’t need to take time off work or rush to find an office that’s open. Whether it’s a single signature or a full estate planning package, I value every client interaction and strive to make the process seamless.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I am the youngest of four sisters, and I actually have a twin, Taylor, who is five minutes older than me (something she never let me forget as a kid!). Taylor and I have always been very close and did just about everything together growing up. I come from a family of teachers (my mom, aunt, and uncle all taught) and for a long time I thought I would follow the same path. Taylor and I would spend hours playing pretend “school,” taking turns being the teacher, and it truly never got old.

I was also an avid soccer player throughout my childhood. Most weekends were spent at a game or tournament, either playing myself or cheering on one of my sisters since all four of us played. To this day, I love going to sporting events. Growing up, we often went to Angels games, and now my family and I make it to Padres games whenever we can. We’re also huge Wave fans and enjoy watching SDFC games, whether on TV or at the stadium.

Personality wise, I’ve always been someone who takes a little time to warm up in new social settings, but once I’m comfortable, I’m pretty outgoing with a sarcastic sense of humor (which I’ve already started to see in my four year old!).
