Today we’d like to introduce you to Solace Support
Hi Solace, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Solace emerged from a collective understanding, a bond woven through the threads of grief and resilience. Torie, Allison, and Ashlee, touched by the raw reality of miscarriage and fertility struggles, felt compelled to extend compassion to others on similar journeys. United by their own battles and the unwavering support they found in each other, they birthed Solace—a sanctuary where empathy and healing intertwine. Allison is a midwife and owner of a local san diego birth-center, Ashlee her daughter was the program director and designer at the birthcenter while Torie came in the center as a client with her first pregnancy. Torie experienced a miscarriage and Allison had the privilege of supporting Torie during this journey, offering the type of personalized support every woman deserves during this time.
This is how the dream of Solace began. Torie after speaking with a dear friend that also suffered a loss came to be business partners with a want to help provide the support she experienced with every woman that was needing it. She learned that 1 in 4 pregnancies end in a loss and we all asked if this is so prevalent why are there so little resources for pregnancy loss and why are we NOT supposed to talk about it. Women go back to work sometimes the next day, as if nothing happened. These are the stories we here time and time again from our community. We want to change this statistic and help women honor this loss,l, take time to heal and grieve before moving back to their normal daily routine.
The 3 owners all bring their strengths, experience and passions that have created a beautiful resource to normalize this common loss so many women experience and provide the items we saw best to support a woman physically and emotionally.
Torie is a holistic nutritionist and author , ashlee is the creative director and Allison is a licensed midwife. We also decided to part with a local non profit www.thrivewellnesscollective.com donating a portion of our proceeds to provide free miscarriage support visits to anyone seeking this care. You get an hour with a midwife in person or virtually to talk about what to expect and how to best heal. We are small female owned san diego local business with a goal to make change in the lives of the women we support. They are not just our customers they are our community . We want them to know they are not alone.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
We have had a great response from every woman we have spoken to that received a solace box but this has bit been an easy road. All three owners work full time in other jobs, we do not have any financials investors, so it has been a slow process. We all used our own money to get this business off the ground, taking time in between our families and work schedules.
We do it because we believe in it, we know Solace has and will help more women to heal. We cant give up because it is hard work. e know once this conversation is started and women feel they have a voice and are bring heard we can help shift the paradigm around pregnancy loss. Its been a struggle to get the medical world to see that they are not giving personalized care to the women that wall through their office or emergency room doors. This lack of care causes trauma and more injury.
We are approaching OBs , ultrasound offices, ND offices, chiropractors , anyone that supports womens health.
We found that 98% of our customers are NOT the women who are suffering the loss but her friends and family are the ones purchasing the boxes. One struggle we plan to overcome is getting our boxes in retail store like Sephora or Ulta or even local esthetician or spas, where women go for self care. Another challenge is helping women realize that hiding a pregnancy because it might not last, is not a way to avoid pain. It makes it worse. If noone knows a woman is pregnant and she suffers a miscarriage, often times she is left alone to suffer (just her and her partner) we need woman to talk about their experiences and help normalize this. Allowing their friends and family to support them. A loss doesnt hurt less if noone knows. It still is tragic and now your grieving alone. The same people that would celebrate your new baby will support your through a loss.
As you know, we’re big fans of Solace support. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Tell us more about your business or organization. What should we know?
Solace is an online business dedicated to supporting individuals and families navigating the painful journey of pregnancy loss. At the heart of our mission is the Solace Box—a carefully curated collection of handmade, organic, and artisan items designed to provide both physical and emotional support for women experiencing pregnancy loss. We also recognize the importance of supporting partners, offering them tools and a compassionate letter to help them grieve and assist their loved one during this challenging time.
Our business is led by three passionate women Ashlee Davis (Creative Director) , Torie Hall (Holistic Nutritionist) , and Allison Tartari (licensed Midwife) with years of experience in maternal health, fertility, birth, and postpartum care. We have spent countless hours working directly with women and families in some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. This deep understanding allows us to craft products that truly meet their needs, helping them feel seen, supported, and cared for during their healing journey.
What do you do, what do you specialize in / what are you known for?
We specialize in creating thoughtfully curated pregnancy loss support boxes that provide comfort, healing, and care for both women and their partners. We are known for filling the void that often exists when women leave their OB’s office or the ER without resources, knowledge of what to expect, or compassionate tools to help them heal. We understand firsthand how devastating this experience can be and the lasting emotional impact it can have, not only on the woman but also on her future pregnancies.
Our expertise lies in blending holistic wellness with practical emotional support. Pregnancy loss is a deeply personal and often isolating experience, so our Solace Boxes are designed to bridge that gap and offer tangible, heartfelt care.
Our team’s background in midwifery, holistic nutrition, and women’s health ensures that every item included in our boxes is intentional. From organic teas and soothing bath soaks to guided journals and informational resources, we aim to nurture both body and mind. Additionally, our inclusion of partner-specific support recognizes that grief is shared but experienced differently—and that is okay.
What Sets You Apart from Others?
What truly sets Solace apart is our combined experience in the fertility and birth world. Each of us has spent years supporting women through all stages of life—from preconception to postpartum. This hands-on experience allows us to deeply understand the needs of women and their families during such vulnerable times, informing every decision we make about what goes into our boxes.
We also prioritize maternal mental health, recognizing that just because a woman is not holding her baby doesn’t mean she is not in a postpartum period. Every postpartum experience carries a risk of postpartum mood disorders, and this risk is heightened when grief or loss is involved. We focus on educating our community about the signs and symptoms of these disorders, offering resources, and providing herbal remedies specifically designed to support emotional and physical healing. Our goal is to soften this challenging time and provide women with tools for resilience and self-care.
We are deeply committed to quality and collaboration. Every product in the Solace Box is handmade, organic, or sourced from companies that adhere to the highest standards of cleanliness, sustainability, and ethical practices. This ensures that the women we serve receive only the best, most thoughtful care.
Beyond providing exceptional products, we are passionate about creating a supportive community for women. We offer a dedicated Facebook group where women can ask questions, share their stories, and connect with others who understand their experiences. One of our owners hosts live Q&A sessions weekly, providing personalized guidance and insights. Additionally, we regularly add valuable resources to the group and organize live support events for those local to the San Diego, California area.
Finally, we are committed to giving back. A portion of every purchase is donated to Thrive Wellness Collective’s free miscarriage support program, extending our mission to ensure that even more women receive the compassionate care and resources they deserve.

What Do You Want Our Readers to Know About Your Brand, Offerings, Services, etc.?
Solace is so much more than a box—it’s a lifeline of care, compassion, and understanding during one of life’s most vulnerable moments. Our Solace Box is thoughtfully curated to provide physical and emotional healing, featuring organic teas, soothing bath products, guided journals, and carefully selected resources that help women feel nurtured, educated, and supported during their loss.
But Solace is just the beginning. We are excited to share that we’re expanding our offerings to include a fertility box and a first-cycle box, tailored to support women through other stages of their reproductive journeys. Each product we create reflects our mission:
To be a beacon of support, offering physical and emotional care for every woman navigating the journey of pregnancy loss and beyond. Through our thoughtfully curated support boxes and resources, we strive to provide comfort and healing. Each item is intentionally selected to nurture your body, uplift your spirit, and remind you that you are never alone, no matter where your path leads.
Solace was born from a deeply personal story. Torie first met Allison and Ashlee at the birth center they founded, where she came into care during her first pregnancy. Tragically, her pregnancy ended in miscarriage. However, the personalized care she received from Allison and the team was unlike anything she had heard from others who had gone through similar losses. That midwife-led care—filled with compassion, understanding, and support—left a lasting impact on her.
Later, while sharing her story with a friend who had also experienced a miscarriage, the idea for Solace began to take shape. They envisioned a way to bring the same kind of care and resources Torie had received to women everywhere: a box filled with tools for healing, emotional support, and the comfort of knowing they are not alone.
Torie, a holistic nutritionist, dove into learning everything she could about miscarriage, hormones, and fertility. This expertise is now woven into every aspect of Solace. After almost a year of focusing on her own healing, Torie became pregnant again. During this time, she approached Allison with her idea, saying, “A friend and I came up with this idea for an online resource. How can we make it happen? I want every woman who experiences a loss to feel the way you made me feel—cared for, seen, and understood.” Together, they brought this vision to life, ensuring that no woman has to endure the pain of miscarriage feeling isolated or unsupported.
Ashlee, the creative force behind Solace, used her years of experience around the birth world to craft the brand’s beautiful and natural look. Her vision reflects the essence of Solace: beauty, healing, and compassion for every woman who opens one of our boxes.
At Solace, we believe no one should go through loss feeling unsupported or invisible. Our mission is to ensure that every woman and family touched by pregnancy loss knows they are not alone. We see you. We value you. And we are here to help.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
San Diego is a city that feels like home the moment you arrive. We love its vibrant sense of community, where people genuinely care for one another and support small businesses like ours. The natural beauty of San Diego is unmatched—from the peaceful beaches to the scenic hiking trails, it’s a place that nurtures both body and mind, aligning perfectly with the values of our business. The city’s diversity and strong emphasis on health and wellness make it an ideal environment for Solace to grow and connect with families who value holistic care and compassionate support.
What do you like least about San Diego?
While San Diego is an incredible place to live and work, the cost of living can be a significant challenge, especially for small businesses like ours. Starting and running a business focused on helping others is rewarding, but the financial pressures of operating in such an expensive area can be daunting. Additionally, while the city is known for its forward-thinking community, we feel there’s still a need for more accessible resources for women’s health and mental wellness—something we hope to change through our work with Solace.
