Today we’d like to introduce you to Trevor Locke.
Hi Trevor, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I’m proud to say I was born and bred in California. I grew up in the Bay Area where I was exposed to a multitude of culture, art, and diversity. My father was a hard-working general contractor who specialized in mostly remodels. He actually built our first house from the ground up, so it was interesting to see how everything was carefully planned out and put together. I’ve always enjoyed working with my hands and creating something from nothing. So, when my father moved down to San Diego in 1997, I joined him a couple of years later, and we started working as father and son under our business name Crown Moulding Designs. We specialize in and design all kinds of interior trim projects, including wainscot, window and door trim, and of course, crown moulding. We have been fortunate enough to work with many great homeowners and designers who appreciate how we can transform a simple house into a warm and inviting home.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In the beginning, everything was great. We were running two crews with two trucks and were booked a few months out. My father thought it would be a great idea to diversify, so we opened a moulding supply store. Unfortunately, our business is affected by the housing market, so when 2008 came along and the bubble burst, we took quite a hit and had to downsize. Sadly, we had to let our employees go and become a two-man team once again.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business.
I took over the company in 2015 when my father retired. I’ve always believed in hard work, having integrity, and taking pride in whatever it is I’m working on. Some people look at their jobs as just a paycheck, but what I do provides a positive and everlasting change in how people can enjoy their homes even more. Not to mention increasing the value of their homes. There is nothing better than transforming a blank slate into a work of art that makes others happy. At Crown Moulding Designs, we offer red carpet service and treat our customers’ home as if it were our own.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
We hope to expand our crown moulding family by hiring more employees and increasing our social media presence. The last few years have been tough for everyone. Hopefully, some big economic and social changes are coming soon so the housing market can get back on track and everyone feels more comfortable about their finances and futures. We would love the opportunity to keep bringing beauty and warmth back into people’s lives for many more years to come.
